Paramore Headlines Honda Civic Tour

Paramore will front the 2010 Honda Civic Tour this summer.  The group is taking part in the coast-to-coast “green” trek and will give away a band-customized Honda Civic Si Coupe, as is tradition.  Singer Hayley Williams says, quote, “We’re so stoked to be a part of the 2010 Honda Civic Tour.  It’s a big deal to have our name at the top of that bill.  Not only does Honda bring great bands and their fans together every year to rock, but they’re really carrying the banner and helping to make concerts environmentally friendly.  We’re looking forward to rocking out GREEN with you this summer.”  Joining Paramore on the tour will be Tegan & Sara.  Tegan Quin says via the band’s website, quote, “Sara [Quin] and I are so excited to announce that we will be on tour this summer/fall with Paramore.  The dates will be part of the 2010 Honda Civic Tour.  We first heard about Paramore a few years ago and have been huge fans ever since.  Their new record ‘Brand New
Eyes’ is one of our favorite releases of the year and we’re already practicing our dance moves in preparation for the tour!”
The trek begins July 23rd in Raleigh, North Carolina and continues through 31 cities.  Dates and venues will be announced shortly.  Paramore fan club members will have access to a pre-sale March 22nd, with advance tickets also becoming available at http://www.HondaCivicTour.com the following day.  The general on-sale date for the tour is March 27th.  Also, be sure to join “www.facebook.com/HondaCivicTour” for updates and pre-sale information and codes.

A Dandy May For Dandy Warhols

The Dandy Warhols are eyeing a May return.  In a recent mailing to fans, the group explains, quote, “The rumors are true.  A record is coming in May containing the best of our years with Capitol, plus a couple brand new songs.  Stay tuned.”  In related news, Peter Holmstrom has a new side project titled Peter International Airport that will be released this summer.

Rock Band Goes Green Day

Green Day is the next group to get their own video game.  The band has been chosen to headline the next “Rock Band” game, due out June 8th.  The game will feature the likenesses of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool as players progress through the story and history of the band.  There will be 47 tracks for the game, including such favorites as “Brain Stew,” “Jaded,” “Hitchin’ A Ride,” “American Idiot,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” and “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams.”

Kings Of Leon Get “Revenge”

Kings Of Leon is the latest act to team up with the creators of “Tap Tap Revenge” to personalize their own iPhone game app.  The “Kings Of Leon Revenge” game allows the player to tap their way through tracks or battle others through Bluetooth-enabled competitions.  Songs included within the game include “Use Somebody,” “Sex On Fire,” “The Bucket,” “Crawl,” “Be Somebody,” “McFearless,” “Notion,” “On Call,” “Black Thumbnail,” and “True Love Way.”  The game retails for four dollars and 99-cents and is available via the iTunes App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

New Strokes Possible For September

The Strokes are getting several more steps closer to their return.  The group, which has been on hiatus for quite some time, is starting to look ahead to new music this year.  Singer Julian Casablancas tells “The Chicago Tribune,” quote, “I think [the album will] be out in September.  I’ve written a lot of melodies for it, but the other guys have also contributed a lot more — melodies, choruses, parts.  It’s way more collaborative.  So it’ll have a different feel than our other albums.”  The vocalist went on to confirm the ongoing rumor that the band would be one of the headliners at this year’s Lollapalooza festival in Chicago this August.  So far, they’ve only announced performances at the Isle Of Wight festival and Scotland’s Rockness festival overseas.

Faith No More Adds Tour Dates

Slowly but surely, the reunited Faith No More is filling up their tour schedule in North America.  The first announced date came at Coachella Saturday April 17th.  Then the band announced three dates that immediately sold out at The Warfield in their home base of San Francisco April 12th-14th.  Now they’ve announced their first East Coast date, as the band will play Brooklyn’s Waterfront Park as part of a benefit for the Open Space Alliance July 5th.  The band reunited in 2009, but played all of their shows overseas.

Pennywise’s Teglas Joins Peaceful Protest

New Pennywise vocalist Zoli Teglas is fitting in well with the politically-minded rockers.  In fact, he’s joining the conservation group Sea Shepherd today for a lunchtime protest at the Hump Restaurant in Santa Monica, California.  The restaurant has reportedly been serving endangered Sei Whale meat.  The eatery’s owners could be fined 20-thousand-dollars or serve one year in prison for the discretion.  Teglas teamed with Sea Shepherd board member Kurt Lieber and Pelican Rescue Team director of operations Grace Ko to obtain police approval in organizing the peaceful protest to encourage Los Angeles-area sushi lovers to urge the restaurant owners to put an end to serving endangered species as delicacies.  The protest runs today from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at The Hump Restaurant at the Santa Monica Airport at 32-21 Donald Douglas Loop South.

New Mess On The Way

The Ace Enders project I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody’s Business is inching closer to a new release.  The group recently revealed that “The World We Know” would be the first disc in a trilogy.  Now they’ve also let slip with the tracks that will make up the album.  “Alternativepress.com” reports that songs include: “Sleep Means Sleeping,” “My Hands Hurt,” “Old Man?.,” “You’re Not So Good At Talking Anymore,” “Rosary,” “No Idea Where I’m Going,” “Stop Smoking Because It’s Not Good For You,” “100 Dollar Bills,” “Baby Steps,” “Light Voices Long Rides,” and “Telling Me Goodbye.”  “The World We Know” is expected March 23rd.

Temper Trap To Showcase “Sweet” Moments

Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition” seems to be soundtracking just about every TV commercial or promo these days.  The band’s singer, Dougie Mandagi, says that the song is a difficult one to perform live.
Temper Trap is currently partaking in a “Sweet Disposition Fan Photo Contest.”  Fans have been asked to submit photos of their own “sweetest” moment along with a 140-character or less description of why it stands out.  Today is the deadline for photo submissions.  Fifty finalists are being chosen and then fans can vote on their favorite 25.  The winning photos will then be featured in the “fan” video for the track and each winning entrant will also receive a personal note and signed poster from the group.  Visit the band’s Facebook page to vote in the contest.

Cavo’s Hobbs Leaves The Bedroom

Cavo guitarist Chris Hobbs gets his chance to shine on the road, but there was a time where the biggest spotlight came from the light in his bedroom.  Hobbs says he owes his current success to the years of practice on guitar growing up.
Hobbs is a self-taught musician who spent countless hours trying to figure out his favorite bands’ music and eventually started to craft his own style.  Hobbs’ guitar work can currently be heard on the top ten single “Crash.”

Another Label Joins Record Store Day

The label 4AD is the latest imprint to get behind the Record Store Day release strategy.  They’ve called on several of their artists for the new compilation EP called “Fragments From A Work In Progress.”  The limited edition 12-inch includes cuts from artists such as Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Tune-Yards, Blonde Redhead, Gang Gang Dance, and The Big Pink.  Get out to participating stores April 17th to pick up the limited edition offering.

Beck Rounds Up Next Guests

Velvet Underground, Leonard Cohen, and Skip Spence are among the acts covered as part of Beck’s “Record Club” experiment, and the musician is ready to call upon a new group of musical friends to help him cover his next subject.  Though the muse for the next recording has not been revealed as of yet, St. Vincent vocalist Annie Clark let slip that she recently teamed up with Beck, Liars, and Os Mutantes for the next “Record Club” project.  She tweeted, quote, “It will be online soonish.  Serious fun.”  As with past “Record Club” releases, the musicians are expected to team up for an impromptu recording of a single musician’s full album over the course of a single day.  Some of the past participants include MGMT, Wilco, Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale, Devendra Banhart, Feist, Nigel Godrich, Jamie Lidell, and Beck’s brother-in-law Giovanni Ribisi.

Slash Sets Lineup

Slash has his full band set for touring.  The guitar great previously announced that Alter Bridge’s Myles Kennedy, who makes one of the guest contributions on his album, will serve as the vocalist for his touring band.  The rest of the lineup includes rhythm guitarist Bobby Schneck, bassist Dave Henning, and drummer Brent Fitz.  Former Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney and noted session drummer Josh Freese helped Slash with backing parts in the studio.  The guitarist says in a posting that he’s currently finalizing the itinerary for his spring tour and dates will be announced shortly.
Deftones Adding Dates And “Rocket Skates”

There’s activity coming from the Deftones camp.  The group will resume touring in April, with a current kickoff April 24th at Vive Latino in Mexico City.  So far, only a handful of U.S. dates have been announced.  They include stops in El Paso on April 27th at Club 101 and a date in Corpus Christi on Apr. 29th at Concrete Street.  The Deftones are also slated to play in Mission, Texas on April 30th at Las Palmas Race Park.  They head to Columbus, Ohio for a May 22nd show at Rock On The Range.  The group’s “Diamond Eyes” album arrives May 18th and the video for the new single “Rocket Skates” has surfaced online.

Ok Go Goes Free From EMI

OK Go are parting ways with EMI and taking control of their own careers by launching the Paracadute label, which will oversee the distribution and promotion functions for the band.  The group recently released their “Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky” album.  Singer Damian Kulash says, quote, “We’d like to thank the people who have worked so hard on our behalf, and we’d like to thank our fans for making this choice an easy one for us.”  The group recently made headlines when questioning their former label’s embedding policy for their videos, which had upset fans who alerted the band.
OK Go continue to be known for their ground-breaking clips, including the flashy “WTF” clip, and the two videos for “This Too Shall Pass.”  The first one featured the band playing in a field with the Notre Dame marching band, and the second had the group taking part in a Rube Goldberg-type machine with plenty of bells and whistles.  The exit from EMI Music was reportedly a mutual agreement and will become effective April 1st.

Temper Trap Showcases “Sweet” Moments

Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition” seems to be soundtracking just about every TV commercial or promo these days, and now it can have its place in your world as well.  The group is currently partaking in a “Sweet Disposition Fan Photo Contest.”  Fans are asked to submit photos of their own “sweetest” moment along with a 140-character or less description of why it stands out.  Fifty finalists will be chosen and then fans can vote on their favorite 25.  The winning photos will then be featured in the “fan” video for the track and each winning entrant will also receive a personal note and signed poster from the group.  However, the entry time is limited as the final date for submissions is tomorrow, March 12th.  Visit the band’s Facebook page for more information.

Harvest Of Hope Prepares Feast Of Rock

One of the first major festivals of the year takes place this weekend with the Harvest Of Hope event at St. John’s County Fairgrounds in St. Augustine, Florida.  The Friday lineup includes such favorites as Rogue Wave, Portugal. The Man, Port O’Brien, Black Sheep, Chali 2na, Kool Keith as Dr. Octagon, Dead Prez, We Are The Union, Scum Of The Earth, Avi Buffalo and more.  The Saturday bill includes: Senses Fail, High On Fire, Anvil, 7 Seconds, Anti-Flag, Strike Anywhere, A Wilhelm Scream, Billy Bragg, Kimya Dawson, Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Cobra Skulls, Leatherface, Kevin Seconds and others.  Sunday has Broken Social Scene, Man Man, Kid Sister, Matt Pond PA, Sea Wolf, Fruit Bats, The Supervillains, Crime In Stereo, The Loved Ones, Broadway Calls, Stars Of Track And Field, Cory Branan and more.

Senses Fail Don’t Fail Workers

Senses Fail is taking part in this weekend’s Harvest Of Hope festival and they’re happy to participate in something that brings awareness to the plight of migrant workers.  Singer Buddy Nielsen tells AlternativePress.com, quote, “I think it’s basically like supporting the backbone of the country.  If it weren’t for migrant workers working on farms, a lot wouldn’t get done.  There’s the complaint that they’re taking jobs, but they’re doing jobs most wouldn’t do and for considerably less pay.  To me, they’re providing a necessary and useful help to our country and we should support them.”  Nielsen says he grew up going to shows where performers encouraged political activism, and while he doesn’t feel that Senses Fail is a political band, he’s happy to lend their name to the event.

Sub Pop Feels Nostalgic

Sub Pop Records is chipping in for Record Store Day.  The label has a compilation called “Casual Nostalgia Fest” that it will offer.  It includes 19 tracks taken from their 20th anniversary show in 2008.  It features cuts from Green River, Wolf Parade, Beachwood Sparks, Blitzen Trapper, Flight Of The Conchords, Iron & Wine, The Constantines, Low, Mudhoney, and more.  The label will also offer Soundgarden’s “Hunted Down” seven-inch, Beach House’s “Zebra” EP, a CocoRosie seven-inch, an Album Leaf 12-inch, a Happy Birthday seven-inch, and a split seven-inch featuring Dum Dum Girls and Male Bonding.  Get out to participating record stores April 17th.

Tankian Is Shifting Sounds

“Elect The Dead Symphony” is paving the way for a musical detour for Serj Tankian.  The vocalist tells Noisecreep.com, quote, “My music is just evolving.  For years I have been writing music of varying colors and shapes, yet what I’m known for is the progressive rock elements above all.  With the musical, the orchestra show with the APO and the new solo record, I am presenting some other elements that I have always created.”  Tankian says his next solo record, in particular, has a style and genre all its own and will be “fresh, deep and original.”  The singer adds, quote, “To re-release the same record over and over again due to commercial interests is a compromise art can do without.”

Mastodon Readies “Jonah Hex” Soundtrack

The band Mastodon is stepping away from their traditional releases to do some soundtrack work.  The group started last fall creating music for the upcoming big screen adaptation of the “Jonah Hex” comic.  Guitarist Bill Kelliher tells Ultimate-Guitar.com, quote, “It was great.  After touring and touring, we had September of 2009 off.  We went straight to Los Angeles and spent a week there coming up with ideas.  We watched the film in segments and wrote stuff there and ad-libbed some stuff.  But we gave them more than enough material to use.”  Kelliher says that with some extra time available this month, the group might do a couple more small snippets for the movie to help fill in, but their work is essentially complete.  The “Jonah Hex” film, starring Josh Brolin and Megan Fox, is expected this June.

Cypress Hill Rises Up To The Challenge

Cypress Hill returns April 20th with the new album “Rise Up,” and for the first time in years the group didn’t have the pressures of a label or deadlines hanging over their head.  After taking time off in recent years for outside projects and fulfilling their longtime label contract, the group reunited to make a record on their own timetable.  Sen Dog says it was nice to get old friends back together.
Tom Morello can be heard playing guitar on the current single “Rise Up.”  Other guests on the disc include Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, System Of A Down’s Daron Malakian, Everlast, Marc Anthony, Pitbull, Cheech & Chong and more.  Sen Dog says, quote, “It was a great feeling to know that here we are doing another album.  It took a little bit longer, the process, than we thought it would, but once we got in there it was a great feeling to be working on material again with the crew and find ourselves being highly creative.”  “Rise Up” hits stores on April 20th.

30 Seconds Talks Hawk Sound On “Kings”

The 30 Seconds To Mars song may be called “Kings And Queens,” but the track itself opens with the sound of a hawk.  During the recording sessions for the album, the band found that a hawk had been hanging around the studio so they attempted to record it for future usage.  Frontman Jared Leto and guitarist Tomo Milicevic say their rel

Social Distortion Drummer Leaves Band For Angels And Airwaves

Social Distortion has lost a member.  Drummer Atom Willard is moving on from the group to continue his gig drumming for Angels & Airwaves.  Scheduling conflicts between the two acts led Willard to make the difficult decision to leave Social D.  Social Distortion says via a posting, quote, “We know this was not an easy decision for him, but Atom is an incredible individual and we’re all better people for having him on board while we did.  Atom will be sorely missed, but we wish him the very best.”  Angels & Airwaves is launching a tour behind the recently released album “LOVE.”  The road trip will begin with an appearance at Bamboozle Left in Anaheim, California on March 27th.

Smashing Pumpkins Seeking New Bassist, Keyboardist

Billy Corgan is restocking The Smashing Pumpkins after the recent departure of bassist Ginger Pooley.  The musician has left the group to raise her new child with her husband, so Corgan is opening the audition process to find her replacement.  Billy says, quote, “Although I am heartbroken that Ginger is leaving the group, I really respect her decision to put family first.  I appreciate everything that she has contributed to The Smashing Pumpkins, and I’m proud of her for being such a great musician and friend.”  In addition to seeking a bass player, Corgan is also looking to add a keyboard player.  He says he wants someone who, quote, “is a fan of—and can play in the prog-rock style of—Jon Lord and Rick Wakeman.”  While Corgan looks for his new band members he has recruited Electric Prunes bassist Mark Tulin to sit in with the group.
Those interested in either position are asked to e-mail their information—including their age and previous band experience as well as any photos or performance web links to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).  Only musicians with video clips will be considered.  The deadline for submissions is March 31st.

Switchfoot Set For Sixth Bro-Am

Switchfoot is onto their sixth year of staging the San Diego-based Bro-Am music and surfing fundraiser.  This year’s event is set for June 26th at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, California.  The Bro-Am features a surfing contest, a live art mural created by local artists, and a live concert to end the festivities.  Switchfoot drummer Chad Butler says, quote, “The Bro-Am really sums up our connection with San Diego, the surfing and music communities coming together to make a difference.”  Last year’s event drew seven-thousand people and raised close to 100-thousand dollars for the StandUp For Kids organization.  StandUp For Kids will also be the beneficiary for this year’s event.  The surfing and concert lineups will be announced shortly.

Franz Ferdinand Frontman Denies Plans To Write A Musical

Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos may have an idea for a musical, but the vocalist isn’t planning to act on it.  The singer hinted at his idea during an interview with Australia’s “Triple J,” but he now says in a Twitter posting, quote, “I’m not writing a bloody musical. I was talking about an idea I had for one.  Doesn’t mean I’m going to write it.”  In another tweet Kapranos adds, quote, “I had an idea for a Sit-Com in a Russian abattoir. I’m not writing that either. Or the Sci-Fi movie script “Time Bin.””
Kapranos recently told the Australian radio outlet that he had an idea he thought, quote, “would make an amazing musical.”  He gave a vague explanation, noting, quote, “The thing is, what would make a great musical would be to pick a contemporary figure, like somebody from either current times of the last ten years.  Somebody who’s had a big impact and write about them.”  Kapranos also said he had a celebrity in mind for a subject.  He wouldn’t name the person, but offered that it wasn’t a musician.

Foo Fighters Planning Their Return

Dave Grohl may be rocking with Them Crooked Vultures, but Foo Fighters are never far from his mind.  The rocker tells BBC’s 6Music that the group’s first extended break in years will wind down later this year.  He explains, quote, “Foo Fighters have just started writing and we’re going to start recording in September, so life is full of music.”  Grohl also told “Rolling Stone” that Foo Fighters will work with producer Butch Vig on their next disc, and they have plans to let the cameras roll during the process for a new documentary.  The movie will celebrate the band’s 16 years together and chronicle the album-making process.  This will be Foo Fighters’ first release since 2007’s “Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace.”

Pennywise Hoping Fans Embrace New Singer

Pennywise is prepping for their first tour with their new frontman.  While Zoli Teglas performed a few shows with the group late last year, the upcoming trek is the band’s first with him as their new singer.  Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge says the group has the support of the tour promoters, and they’re hoping their audience will accept the lineup change.
Pennywise lost its voice when founding frontman Jim Lindberg left the group last fall.  The band tapped Teglas to fill in following Lindberg’s sudden departure.  They formed a quick bond with Teglas, which prompted the band to make his place in Pennywise permanent.  Pennywise will launch a European tour in Belgium in April.  In advance of the overseas trek, the group has a few shows coming up in California and Nevada.  Their first date is set for San Diego on March 17th.

Pennywise U.S. Tour Dates

March 17 - San Diego, California, at the House of Blues
March 18 - Ventura, California, at the Majestic Ventura Theater
March 19 - Chico, California, at the Senator Theater
March 20 - Reno, Nevada, at the Grand Sierra Resort Theater

Serj Tankian Bringing Symphonic Efforts To The U.S. Stage

Serj Tankian is back in stores this week with the new “Elect The Dead Symphony” album, a disc that pairs the hard rocking vocalist with New Zealand’s Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.  Tankian is anxious for American audiences to also get a taste of his musical experiment and has booked a pair of symphonic shows in the States this summer.  Newly announced stops find the vocalist performing with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra at Atlanta’s Chastain Park July 9th.  He’ll also take the stage in his hometown of Los Angeles with orchestral backing at the Greek Theatre on July 30th.

Linkin Park Offering Concert Downloads

Linkin Park is continuing their fan-friendly ways by offering a new bootleg series.  “LP Archives: Official Tour Bootlegs” comprises over 100 live concert recordings taped between 2007 and 2009.  Drummer Rob Bourdon says, quote, “We originally decided that it would be cool to let our fans buy a recording of the show they just attended.  Once we saw the positive response to that, we figured it would be even better to make all of the shows available to anyone who would like to download them.  We wanted to make the highest quality recordings available to all of our fans.”  Linkin Park intends on launching the material at the new website downloads.linkinpark.com on March 17th.  However, LP Underground fan club members already have access to the recordings, and are receiving a 25-percent discount on their purchases.  Each concert retails for nine-dollars-and-99-cents, and there are bundle deals offering a free sixth concert for those who purchase five.

Crash Kings “Wait” On Big Break

The Hollywood stereotype of actors getting discovered waiting tables apparently works for musicians as well.  Crash Kings singer-pianist Tony Beliveau says his big break came when he was a waiter at a Los Angeles-based eatery, and singer-songwriter-producer Linda Perry landed at one of his tables.  He recalls that as he took her order she asked him about his musical background.  Beliveau adds that she pursued him.
Beliveau says he was educated at Boston’s Berklee College Of Music and part of the jazz community, so he wasn’t sure just what he’d play for Perry.  But he notes that over time the pieces fell into place for his band and their music, and they got some demos together for her.  Once she heard them, Crash Kings—which also features Tony’s brother Mike on bass and drummer Jason Morris—were on their way.

Hot Chelle Rae “Bleed” Onto The Musical Map

Hot Chelle Rae is new to the music scene, but ready to leave their mark with their new single, “Bleed.”  Lead guitarist Nash Overstreet says the track is one of their early songs, which he and frontman R.K. Follese cut with producer Eric Valentine.
Follese adds that “Bleed” ended up providing the foundation for the band’s debut album.  They developed “Lovesick Electric” with Valentine and producer Butch Walker.  Hot Chelle Rae is now on the road supporting the disc, which arrived in stores in late October.  The band is currently touring with Sherwood.  Their next show will be in Greenville, South Carolina on Thursday.

Jessica Simpson: Billy Corgan Is “Dear Friend”

Jessica Simpson says she considers Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan a “dear friend.”  While on the air with Ryan Seacrest Tuesday morning, the singer explained that she and Corgan worked together on her new song “Who We Are.”  Simpson says, quote, “Billy was so kind to be able to help me out with the song…I can’t find good enough words to speak about Billy.  He’s a very, very dear friend.”  The singer debuted her new Corgan-co-written song on Seacrest’s Los Angeles-based radio show.  She says she was inspired to write it while working on her VH1 reality show, “The Price Of Beauty.”  She says, quote, “I define my own beauty for myself…it’s really just about being good enough for yourself.”  Catch the debut of “The Price Of Beauty” with Jessica Simpson on VH1 on March 15th at 10:00 p.m. Eastern.

Kid Rock Testifies In Court Over Alleged Autograph Scuffle

Kid Rock is dealing with another scuffle, this one dating back to 2006.  E! Online says the musician was in court Friday to answer to charges that he attacked three autograph seekers outside Los Angeles’ Roosevelt Hotel.  Michael Medlin, Jose Perez, and Carlos Bonilla brought a lawsuit against Rock over an incident in which he and members of The Boo-Yaa Tribe allegedly attacked them.  Rock denied the attack and stated that he was defending himself in a “chaotic” scene.  He also testified that claims he provoked and challenged them by asking “Who wants a piece of me next?” were ridiculous, insisting, quote, “I wouldn’t say something corny like that.”  Rock added, quote, “It was kind of chaotic.  There were cameras everywhere and people yelling.”  The men are seeking 15-million dollars in damages.

Beastie Boys Aim For Fall Release

The Beastie Boys are hoping to have “Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 1” in stores in September, one year later than it was initially supposed to arrive.  The disc was delayed after rapper Adam “MCA” Yauch was diagnosed with a cancerous salivary gland tumor last July.  But after treatment Yauch says he’s starting to feel better.  He tells EW.com, quote, “It was touch and go there for a while, but I am finally getting my energy back.”  Yauch notes the goal now is to have their music ready for a fall release.  He admits it still depends on his health, and they still have to, quote, “play it by ear.”  Yauch says the group will revisit the album shortly to make sure they are still happy with the material and determine if they want to make additions or changes.

Tom Delonge Sees Modlife As New Business Model For Music

The music industry is rapidly changing and Angels & Airwaves frontman Tom DeLonge feels he’s ahead of the game with the Modlife online service.  The vocalist tells AlternativeAddiction.com, quote, “I kind of look at TV, if people watch a show on NBC they basically are watching for free, but there is a whole business model around it with merchandising and advertising.  I see music the same way, give the people the music for free and let the platform surrounding it generate the revenue.”  As such, the group recently released their “LOVE” album digitally for free.
DeLonge says that he expects the music will draw fans to the Modlife service, which offers concerts, downloadable movies, and interaction with the band in return for a fee.  He adds, quote, “What it boils down to is there are all these different options to make money off of and get millions of copies out to the public by offering the music for free.”  DeLonge says that by launching Modlife, they are trying to put things in motion for what may be the new way things are done in the industry.

Flaming Lips Frontman Working On New Movie

Flaming Lips singer Wayne Coyne has the filmmaking bug again, but his experiences in putting together the movie “Christmas On Mars” are influencing his approach this time around.  Coyne tells Billboard.com that one of the reasons it took the better part of a decade to complete the film was having to reconstruct sets every time he shot a scene.  The vocalist says that won’t be a problem with his next cinematic project, noting, quote, “This one is set in someone’s house and in a backyard and in a slaughterhouse.  All those are available to me right here, so I don’t have to build everything this time.”
Coyne says he plans to employ his bandmates and friends in Oklahoma City to appear in the movie and may reach out to some celebrity pals as well.  He shares, quote, “I’m in the process of begging Justin Timberlake to be part of it.  If I’m lucky I’ll be able to wear him down in another year.”  Coyne adds that he and bandmate Steven Drodz have started working on music for the film, and like his past movie efforts they will work on it as time permits.

Portishead, Goldfrapp Members Bring Sounds To A Silent

Portishead’s Adrian Utley and Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory are taking on an unusual collaboration.  The two musicians have teamed up to provide a soundtrack to the 1928 silent film “The Passion Of Joan Of Arc.”  The movie, complete with the backing soundtrack, debuts in May in England at Bristol’s Colston Hall, and there are plans to take the production on the road.  Utley tells BBC’s 6Music, quote, “We would like to play it places that are not always associated with silent film or film and possibly do it at some festivals.  We’d like to introduce it into a world where I’m sure people would really enjoy it.”  Gregory adds that they researched over 20 films before deciding on the classic.

Dave Grohl Moved By “Anvil”

Dave Grohl is fresh off a presenting stint at the Independent Spirit Awards over the weekend.  The vocalist was asked to introduce Best Documentary winners Anvil as they performed for the audience.  Grohl tells BBC’s 6Music that he was proud to be asked and is a huge fan of “Anvil! The Story Of Anvil.”  He notes, quote, “I cried like 15 times.  I was touched by that movie so profoundly as a musician.”  The rocker explains, quote, “I was weeping not because it’s sad or depressing but because it’s so inspiring.  There is nothing that’s going to stop these guys from playing together.  They’ve got so much passion and dedication and as people, you couldn’t meet nicer people.”
Grohl adds that he can certainly identify with the members of Anvil, noting, quote, “I grew up in suburban Virginia.  I’m a high school drop-out, I worked in a furniture warehouse, I played in a punk rock band.  There were never any career aspirations.”  Grohl says that when he was starting out he played music for the love of it and didn’t care about commercial viability, and much like the guys in Anvil he would leave for a tour and hope there was a job to come home to after the performances ended.  The singer concludes, quote, “All musicians should see this movie, whether you like their music or not.”

Radiohead Denying Reported CD Details

Radiohead is developing a new album, but an e-mail circulating amongst fans about details of the disc is apparently fake.  The music website Tinymixtapes.com reported on an e-mail that allegedly came from the band’s “W.A.S.T.E.” website stating that the group’s new album would be titled “Tehrangeles.”  While the report did state it was unsubstantiated, it also revealed an eleven-song track listing that included such legit titles as “The Daily Mail,” “Give Up The Ghost,” and “Supercollider.”  However, a spokesperson for the band confirms that the album details, including the CD’s name and the specific songs, are not official.  Radiohead returned to the studio in January to continue working on the project.  The band’s new album will be their follow up to 2007’s “In Rainbows.”

Alice In Chains Drummer Happy With “Your Decision” Video

The video for Alice In Chains’ “Your Decision” is getting a strong endorsement.  Drummer Sean Kinney says he thinks the clip turned out fairly well.

Kinney admits he doesn’t really like videos.  He explains that he’s a musician, not an actor, and he finds making a video to be a bizarre and unnatural experience he’d avoid if he could.  “Your Decision” is the latest single from Alice In Chains’ 2009 CD “Black Gives Way To Blue.”  The clip for the song also generated a contest, in which fans continued the storyline with five additional chapters.  The winning chapters have been turned into a comic book.  The grand prize winner will be in New York City to meet the band and catch their concert at Terminal 5 Tuesday night.

Slash Takes Control

Slash is ready to be the host instead of the guest.  The guitarist tells Billboard.com after years of being asked to help out on other people’s albums, he wanted to do something on his own.  He says, quote, “I just wanted to get different people I admired and thought were great on my record.  I’d been doing that on other people’s records forever.”  Avenged Sevenfold vocalist M. Shadows is one of the guests and the singer adds, quote, “You can tell he’s doing the record as a way to try different things.  He definitely branched out, and the result is all over the place.  But the guitar playing is so obviously Slash.  That holds it all together.”  Slash says he had no preconceived idea of who he wanted on the album, and notes he waited until he had some music ideas before approaching his potential guests.  The cameo-filled collection, titled “Slash,” is due April 6th.

Radiohead Bassist Remembers Sparklehorse Leader

The death of Sparklehorse leader Mark Linkous is bringing out musicians inspired by his work.  Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood tells Gigwise.com he was sad to learn of the vocalist’s passing.  He notes Radiohead toured with Sparklehorse back in the ‘90s, recalling, quote, “They were great every night.  His first two records were very important to me, and I carried his music from the tour into my life and my friends’ lives too.”  The bassist adds, quote, “He was softly spoken, with an Old South courtesy I hadn’t heard before.  He introduced me to Daniel Johnston’s music and the West Virginian writing of Pinckney Benedict.  Mark wrote and played some beautiful music and we’re lucky to have it.  Rest in peace.”  Linkous died over the weekend.  His family has confirmed that he took his own life last Saturday.
