Friday, October 12th, 2007 @ 7:30PM
Hey there. Portia here, host of X96's award-winning Utah indie band show, X96 Live and Local.
This Sunday, starting at 8:00 pm., Mury will be here to promote a little show on October 21 at the Avalon theater. They are opening for a band you might know called Yellowcard! Mury consists of former Take The Fall, The Contingency Plan, and Ayrton members. Mury (yes, a nifty misspelling of Murray, Utah) formed last Spring, and moved to California this Summer. But they are still considered local Utah darlings, and they already have a pretty good following here. When I say ‘darlings’, does that make you want to barf? Am I getting old in this great, state of ours?
Also appearing and playing acoustic at 9:30 pm, is Davis County’s Fourteen Days From Forever. I thought it would only be appropriate for the band to come on the 14th. Haha. Okay, that’s lame. http://www.myspace.com/fourteendaysfromforever
Coming up later in the month, the first X96 Live and Local X~SKAvaganza show will debut on the 21st. Scotty from 90’s local Ska band Stretsch Armstronng will be here, as well as new local Ska talent. Insatiable may also make an appearance. It will be one skankin’ good time.
On Sunday, October 28, it’s the second annual X96 Live and Local Halloween party, featuring plenty of scary, hardcore and gothic local music to give you nightmares on the Sabbath. Believe me, Utah may seem tame, but there is plenty of rebellion goin’ on here. In a good way, of course. I think. I also just found a cool pirate Capitan costume from Pib’s Exchange to wear just for the show, and I’m making guests Our Time In Space wear costumes as well. That’s a rule on the Halloween show. I know, the pirate thing is so last year, right? But the kick-ass vinyl boots I found were only $10 and they have metal heels. Who wouldn’t pass that up?
Please join me this and every Sunday night from 8-10 pm. for X96 Live and Local!
The X96 Live and Local stage will still be in the X96 Maverik Big Ass Show at the Salt Palace.

We really don't plan to coordinate like this, just only to wear the same dress at Green Street sometimes.
myspace, myspace, myspace!
Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007 @ 5:02PM
You should know by now that myspace was originally created for musicians. Just about every band is on there, and Utah indie artists are no exception.

Utah local bands and fans, get ready to rumble.
This is going to be immensely exciting for local artists to be exposed (in the good way, of course) and to accept feedback as well. You can check out the X96 Live and Local playlists, (if there was a band, say, that you liked three weeks ago, you could look up that playlist and find it) Utah band concerts posted weekly and consistently updated; and Utah band spotlights, LL fond memories, upcoming LL guests and specialty shows, (like the X96 Live and Local X~SKAVAGANZA coming up on Sunday, October 21 at 8pm) and opportunities for your band to be involved in X96 Events and projects.
Speaking of events, check out the X96 Live and Local stage at the X96 Maverik Big Ass Show this Saturday, October 6, Featuring:
THE PLAYDEAD MOVEMENT
AMBER ALERT
THUNDERFIST
SKINT
THE BROBECKS
ANOTHER STATISTIC
ACUNA
and
THE MARKET
I will be there all day hanging with the local homies, so please come ovah and say hello! We’ll be by the South bathrooms. How convenient for us...and don’t forget Pleasant Grove’s very own VICTIM EFFECT will open on one of the main stages at 11am.
Speaking of projects, let me be the first to tell you that X96 is now taking one-song submissions for X96 Live And Local Volume 4, which will benefit The Utah Food Bank starting this Thanksgiving. Please send your one GREATEST HIT to: X96 Live and Local v.4, 700 E. 515 S. Suite 1C, SLC, UT 84102.
Thanks, and I am freaking thrilled to expose more of the Utah Indie scene (because we all know, it ain’t too shabby!!!) here on http://www.x96.com.
