The University Of Utah Local Band Showdown!
Monday, November 26th, 2007 @ 6:08PM
It's another chance for you to support Utah indie music with me this Friday night at the U of U Union Ballroom.
I judged this competition last year, and it was a blast! This year’s winner will play at the U’s Grand Kerfuffle concert this Spring. ASUU received a boatload of entries and picked the top eight, chosen by students who only listened to the music without knowing any of the band names. The semi-finals were held last week, and four were chosen for the finals:
Larusso http://www.myspace.com/larusso
Melodramus http://www.myspace.com/melodramus
Good Morning Maxfield http://www.myspace.com/goodmorningmaxfield
Patter Stats http://www.myspace.com/patterstats
I will host the event at 6:00 pm. SHARP, and audience participation is part of the voting, so you will be a vital part of the showdown. Oh, and MXPX will headline after the competition at 9:00 pm.
Get your tickets at the U of U Union Ballroom box office for only $15, $5 for students.
PCTV and me.

For over a year now, I have been making monthly appearances on Park City Television's "Mountain Views" show with host Ori Hoffer. It's a news and entertainment show which airs Mondays through Thursdays, with most of those days showcasing live Utah bands. In the past we've had a plethora of bands performing such as The Brobecks, Broke City, The Trademark, Victim Effect, and City Weekly SXSW and Slammy winners.
Tomorrow night, Tuesday November 27, Ori has hopefully found some bands to play Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Christmas songs for the show which airs 6:00-7:00 pm. Honestly, I don’t know who or if he has booked yet. I just threw a bunch of potential local bands his way last week and he’s anticipatively picking and choosing right now. In fact, if he hasn’t found anyone yet, and you know “Grandma Got Run Over By An Emo”, please let us know.
Mountain Views is an immensely entertaining and fun show. You can catch it on Comcast Digital Cable channel 102, or online at http://www.parkcity.tv. If your band wants to be on Mountain Views in the near future, drop me an email: .
X96 Live and Local Volume Four: Where to get it now!
Wednesday, November 21st, 2007 @ 9:26PM
Thank you for all of your generous donations for The Utah Food Bank the first of this week at Jiffy Lube on Foothill Drive. That was your first chance to get the fourth CD installment of X96 Live and Local.
Now, wherever you see the X96 Incident Management Vehicle, and perhaps our new vehicle, Kurty the X96 short bus; all you have to do is flash us (your X96 Freeloader card, you dirty kids) and we will give you X96 Live and Local Volume Four for free!
I will, of course, play more cuts off of the CD this Sunday night starting at 8:00 pm. on X96 Live and Local.
Thanks again for your support of fine, Utah indie music. I am especially proud of the 20 bands on the CD, and I hope you agree. Their websites are printed on the album, so feel free to contact them and give them the pat on the back they deserve. Also thanks again to Phil Istomin (the angry Russian) A.K.A. Manicproject, who designed the cover art. It looks so good, I haven’t been able to stop crying since Monday.
Ciao for now,
Portia Early
