Play at the Brown Bag Concert Series this Summer!
Monday, February 25th, 2008 @ 7:56PM
Wanna play The Brown Bag Concert Series this year?
It’s crazy. In Winter it seems like everyone is getting ready for their Summer shows. It does take months to schedule events like these. So I’d encourage you local yokels to jump on it and apply for this July’s Brown Bag Concert Series, held most days during lunch time. Brown Bag is a nice show usually held from noon to 1:00 outside at different parks along the Wasatch front. Only one band plays per day. So this is your time to shine at lunchy lunch! Oh, and you will get paid!
Go to Slowtrain Records (300 S. 221 E. in SLC) or The Salt Lake Arts Council now to pick up your application. Deadline is March 15.
Peace out,
Portia

Your band on PCTV
Thursday, February 7th, 2008 @ 3:16PM
Ori Hoffer, host of Park City Television's "Mountain Views" is having me recruit Utah bands to play on the show. It's a news and entertainment show that is a total blast. Bands play live, do a station ID which will be used over and over again in the future, and your band can also get a DVD of your performance to use for other auditions. I'm on once a month promoting X96 Live and Local, and talk about what is currently going on in local bands' land. However, Ori needs bands every Monday through Thursday.
Call the main PCTV number at 435-649-0045. Ori’s extention is 105. He is a really nice guy, too. Then he will check out your myspace and see if you are plausible to play on Mountain Views. Good luck!
Do you want to play at The Utah Arts festival?
Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 @ 3:45PM
I am on the performing arts board for the festival again, and it is really cool listening to new artists I've never heard of in genres I didn't think I'd be that into, like bluegrass, for example. Now I actually like a few bluegrass bands since last year's voting. However, this year the performing arts director wants as much rock as possible to change the festival's image a bit. So I encourage all bands who rock out to apply. Remember, the deadline is this Friday!

That’s the application link. The really cool thing is that you send in everything online! No more bulky press kits to send in. Yippee.
You have until this Friday to send in your goods, so get on it.
Actually, I will be on TV today!
Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 @ 3:35PM
Park City Television has me on once a month to talk about the Utah music scene.
The show I appear on is “Mountain Views”, a news and entertainment show hosted by the funny and intelligent Mr. Ori Hoffer. Ori and I talk for about ten minutes about what is currently going on in the local music scene. Tonight I’m going to bring up the Slammys, City Weekly’s annual band competition; and The Utah Arts festival. No, it’s not going to be in the snow this year. Band applications are due this Friday. If your band wants to play the Utah Arts fest in late June, go to this link: http://www.uaf.org/shop/index.php?option=com_performs&formid=1
I might be on TV today.

I did my part and voted this morning at 11:15, and lo and behold there's Chris Vanocur all dressed up with a camera guy hanging out and interviewing people. I've met Chris before, but I didn't know if he'd remember me. So I said hello, and he then asked if he could interview me about the polls. But really, I don't think he remembered me.
I agreed to do a short interview, but I honestly have not been catching up on the race much, or Mitt Romney news for that matter and I was a bit afraid that Vanocur would ask me detailed questions about the Mormon presidential candidate. I did okay, but if they show me on KTVX I hope I sound intelligent enough on my opinions about the candidates and who I voted for. I voted for Obama. Then he asked me why I didn’t vote for Romney, which was the only Romney question I got. I just said because I am a Democrat. That was a safe answer. Oh, then Vanocur asked who Radio From Hell would vote for and all that came out of my mouth was, “Well, it won’t be Hillary!”, and honestly I don’t even know if that’s true. Sometimes I have trouble being put on the spot, but now I am going to be a slave to news reading and watching so I can be on top of things about the latest events. As a DJ, I should anyway. I remember talking to Bill Allred on the air back in 1993, and he said, “Portia, read my lips!” I just looked at him blankly and had no idea what he was talking about. I felt like the biggest idiot that day!
See The Brobecks at The Depot for free this Saturday!
Monday, February 4th, 2008 @ 4:35PM
Hi there. There's this cool company called Clearlink who's giving away free tickets to X96 listeners who text "Clearlink" to 79640.
You will receive a text back, which will be your ticket into the show at The Depot this Saturday, February 9, at 9pm. with The Brobecks and Band Of Annuals. Each text is good for two peeps. Just show your phone at the door! The Depot is a private club for members, so you must be at least 21.
Clearlink, a marketing company, is also hiring right now. They must be cool to work for since they are putting this nifty-neato concert on.
Text now, and good luck!
