The GLBT will be putting on "Queer Prom: The Origin Of Love '08" on Saturday, April 26, at the Downtown Salt Lake Public Library! It is THE prom for the gay and lesbian scene here in our great land of Zion, and if you haven't played with us before, you are missin'!

This year will be my second DJing the prom. If you are 14-20 years of age and would like to attend, go to http://utahpridecenter.org/ for more info. Over 600 people attended in 2007, and we expect up to 800 this year!

PCTV with me and The Donnas! Woot!

Monday, March 24th, 2008 @ 11:55PM

You may or may not know that once a month I am a guest on Park City Television's "Mountain Views" with host Ori Hoffer.

I usually appear with a local band of my choice who performs on the news and entertainment show. (Ori affectionately calls it “newsertainment”. Haha.)

But next Tuesday it will be a bit different. The Donnas are playing Harry O’s in Park City that night, so they will be the musical guests. I am blushing at the fact that I will be in the same room with them! Don’t get me wrong, I am straight, (I’ll have to tell you the story sometime when Bill Allred asked me if I was gay.) but this is going to be one explosive show!

So catch me and The Donnas on April Fool’s Day at 6pm. on Comcast Digital Cable 102, or online at http://www.parkcity.tv. Online you can also see it the entire week. Of course I will talk about the latest Utah band events, and probably how I am giddy about being with The Donnas, even though I AM STRAIGHT! A decent boyfriend would actually be nice.  Hi, I’m Portia. I’m a Cancer and I like...BOYS, my two incredible tabby cats, cooking, local vegan fare, in-line skating, yoga, and a good cuddle on my Love Sac lounger.

Peace out,

Portia Early

I’m sick, dangit. However Live and Local will be hosted tonight with Andy Pants!

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008 @ 2:06PM

The LL show must go on even though I may have the beginnings of what could be the dreaded respiratory flu that everyone is getting. I sure hope to God not!

So join Sr. Pantalones tonight for X96 Live and Local from 8-10 pm. He’ll play new music from Lord Mandrake and Let’s Become Actors, and for the holiday you’ll hear The Gorgeous Hussies’ “Chocolate Bunny”! Funny ass entertainment, that is. Straight up at 8 tonight!

Lord Mandrake played Kilby last week and they are always a joy to watch. Colin Fugit, baby brother of “Almost Famous” and “Wristcutters: A Love Story” star Patrick Fugit (who is in another local band you should check out: Mushman!  http://www.myspace.com/mushmanstories) is one of Lord Mandrake’s vocalists, guitarists, keybordists, and also plays other instruments. Talented dude. He’s quite the versatile musician! Let’s Become Actors (featuring former members of The Brobecks) have their CD release party this Saturday, March 29, at Kilby Court in SLC. Mike Gross, Dave Chisholm, Matt Glass, and Ben Johnson are some of the more talented young artists in Utah, so I highly recommend going to their big event. Kilby is an all-age venue. 330 W. Kilby Ct. (741 S.) All Kilby shows start at 7:30 pm. Also, Insatiable is opening for Bad Manners this Wednesday at In The Venue. Insatiable doesn’t play that often anymore, so I’d catch them at this show. If I’m not dead by then, I’ll be there.

So please tune in tonight at 8:00 pm. for X96 Live and Local. I hope you enjoy the playlist that Andy has for you tonight, and don’t forget to call in with your Utah band requests! 1-877-602-9696. Texting is always fun, too. Don’t forget to add your name. 79640 is that number. If you are requesting your band, heck, make up a name! It will be fun. One time at the old, old Vortex in Exchange Place I got hit on my an inebriated fellow. I introduced myself as Babs Bunny, and he called me Babs all night! Good times.

Next week John Allred and By Tonight will pop by the studio to talk about new happenings in their musical worlds.

Oh, and when you’re sick, monkey PJs and green daisy socks look very Paris right now. It’s hot!

Peace out, Happy Easter, and take your vitamin C and wash your hands frequently kids!

Hang out with me at the BOB!

Saturday, March 15th, 2008 @ 9:43AM

Join me tonight for the Sixth Annual P.T.S.A. Battle of the Bands at Hillcrest High. That's on 900 E. and 7350 S.

Doors open at 6 and the big BOB show starts at 7:00 pm. SHARP! I know this because those PTSA ladies make sure that everything is on time. BOB Nazis, if you will. Also, this morning Richie T. was saying how freaking nice the Hillcrest High auditorium is. I can’t wait to check it out.

SEVENTEEN high school bands will be duking it out for the title of best high school band, and audience participation is a key factor. So, ya know, I’d appreciate it if you were there to root for your favorite band!

This fine event is sponsored by The Truth, and every year I always have a ton of X96 and Truth Swag to throw off the stage.

I’ll see you tonight at Hillcrest High!

A Film In The Ballroom In SLC!

Monday, March 3rd, 2008 @ 7:31PM

Utah County's A Film In The Ballroom, a Sundays/Cardigans-esque band who have been rocking for a few years now, and have a reputation for sticking around in the South end of UT, will finally be playing Kilby Court in downtown Salt Lake City Tonight.

I also know that this will be their last show for a while, for one of their members is moving out of town. Another band with a lot of pull, Kid Theodore, will also be playing. Kilby Court is on 741 S. and 330 W. Erm, you have about an hour to get there, so get on it. Show starts at 7:30.
