My top 11 movies.
Friday, July 18th, 2008 @ 11:35PM
A while ago I saw the RFH blogs blogging along about their top movies.
I just saw the X96 screening of “Batman: The Dark Knight”, and woah, I was taken aback. Especially by Heath Ledger. He was by far the best actor in the movie. It is The Joker Show. I just saw the creepy Joker side of Heath in the trailers, but he is also gosh dang funny! I have never seen him like this. Now I am especially sad about losing him.
Then I got to thinking about my top ten list, which I have never put into thought because I love so many, especially edge of your seat thrillers and who-done-it movies. I really almost orgasm when there is a killer twist! Remember that old Orson Wells TV series “Scene Of The Crime”? I was about 13 at the time. Mysteries were presented, clues were given, and at the end he revealed who was the murderer, and how it was done. I always guessed wrong, but I thought those shows were incredible. I also liked the Poirot series on PBS, and sometimes I was right on those, but I could never ever survive as a real detective. Maybe next life. Then there’s “The Usual Suspects”, “Wild Things”, “Gosford Park”, “Curdled” (produced by Quintin Tarantino), and yes, “Clue”! Tim Curry rocks my boat. Right now it’s all about Dexter on Showtime.
So, and maybe it’s because I just saw the new Batman and thought it was amazing, here are my top 11 all-time movies, in no particular order:
“Batman: The Dark Knight” (Heath Ledger steals the show)
“Memento” (Same director as above, Chris Nolan. Briliant man! Guy Pierce who stars in it, and another Aussie prodigy like Heath, is also in “Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert”, which I adored. Director JJ Abrams would be my second favorite director, but I didn’t get answers to Alias, Lost, and Cloverfield. He reels me in, then I just get frustrated. I honestly think that is his master plan. Damn you, JJ!!!)
“American Beauty”
“The Princess Bride”
“Ferris Buhler’s Day Off” ( I always had a crush on Matthew Broderick! And I know a guy at Liberty Heights Fresh who looks just like Cameron!)
“Delicatessen” (A funny French film, same director who did “Amelie” )
“High Fidelity” (What girl doesn’t like John Cusack? And why can’t Jack Black sing like he does in this film? I love the guy, but I’m getting sick of the cheeseball baritone, when I know he can do better. That’s my own opinion!)
“Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back”
“Ponette” (Another French film about a daughter who has dreams about her dead mom. Really, it’s endearing!)
“Sliding Doors” (Mrs. Coldplay stars in this.)
“A Fish Called Wanda” ("Oh do shut up, Portia!")

Local musicians with multiple talents at the Downtown Farmer’s Market.
Saturday, July 5th, 2008 @ 11:40PM
I went to the downtown farmer's market today in Pioneer Park and found some local musicians selling sushi!
Austin McBride, formerly of Kid Theodore; and Tommy Nguyen, the bassist for The Rubes were flashing their culinary skills at the market today in Pioneer Park. Both boys also work for Takashi, my favorite sushi restaurant in Utah hands down. At the Farmer’s Market, which the guys tell me that they are there on the East side of the park every other Saturday morning, I got their sunomono ‘pasta’ and the portobello/tomato/avocado hand roll, both which I highly recommend. The DT Farmer’s Market is every Saturday at Pioneer Park from 8:00 am till noon or 1:00 pm. Don’t forget to also catch Utah bands on the Salt Lake City Weekly stage!

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 @ 10:43PM
Whenever I fill-in for Mr. Corey O'Brien weeknights here on X96, he lets me take over Xposed at 8:00 pm. to do a Live and Local version.
No voting is done during my appearances, just “Xposure” of three local bands for you to check out.
On Monday, June 30, while Corey was getting shizzled at the 311/Snoop Dog show at USANA, I played these Utah artists for you to be more experienced with:
Starmy “Motor Rev”
FINALLY, after four years of no new recorded material, we get a double EP gem from the popular Salt Lake rock darlings. Oh, and how darling they are! http://www.myspace.com/starmy
Elizabethan Report “Sweat, Swat, Swote!”
A new band out of Provo. And lucky bastards, they just got hand-picked by Red Hot Chili Pepper Anthony Keidis and American Eagle Outfitters to play at the
New American Music Union Festival (NAMU) On August 9 in Philadelphia playing as one of the top 15 college bands in America alongside Bob Dylan, The Raconteurs, The Roots, The Black Keys, Spoon, and others. ER will then compete with the other college bands at the fest to win a $10,000 prize including to be signed. http://www.myspace.com/elizabethanreport
Broke City “I Feel Alive”
And speaking of being signed, pardon my French but sometimes the biz can be so political and extremely unfair, I’m not going to sugar-coat anything here; Broke City (formerly known as SLC band Broke, who was forced to change their name due to a metal band of the same name being signed...but I have not seen them out in the open yet, what gives?) got signed to Madonna’s label Maverik, which shortly went under and got bought out by WB. They were in a long list of bands to get produced, then they were suddenly dropped. Their 2007 highly anticipated album “The Answer” was then released last Summer on their own. Now super genius Wylie Joel Pack and the gang are working on a new effort including this gem “I Feel Alive”. Look for it before 2009. http://www.myspace.com/broke
