Kieth got booted!
Out of 16 designers, and after 6 episodes, My SLC friend Keith Bryce gout outed. Please visit his boutique, Filthy Gorgeous on Pierpont to support. He did tell me that Paris Hilton (yes, a faux pas, but a celeb nonetheless) and Ballet West is using his designs. And anyone who makes it on the show will be famous, so see him before his prices go up!

What does this have to do with X96, erm....
...the fact that I love his boutique on Pierpont Avenue, Filthy Gorgeous, and during gallery stroll each third Friday night, there are several local bands playing. I’ve seen local bands Purr Bats, Mushman, and The Mollies play during the stroll. And it’s free! Kieth’s work is raw, unique, and affordable for you back-to-school X96 kids. He is now on Project Runway Season 5. Ten out of 16 designers remain, and he’s sill in the running. So watch Bravo on Wednesday nights (there are repeats throughout the week) and root for Keith! http://www.bravotv.com.

Happy upcoming Labor Day!
To celebrate, I am taking my dear mother up to Deer Valley to stay up there this weekend at a lodge across from the resort, where Bob Dylan is playing! Being the rock and roll mom that she is, she had every single one of his records in the sixties. She also saw Sonny and Cher for FREE at The Terrace on State Street in ‘63 which held about 100 people, (she said they wore t-shirts and jeans that night, and before Cher started dying her hair!) and she saw The Beatles in NY 1962 for pennies when she was in high school. Lucky lady! I had Highway 61 Revisited on vinyl passed down by her when I was a kid, then she asked for it back when I was in college. Later to find out it was worth about $1000. Dang. Now she loves King Missile, The Nails, U2, Material Issue, The Offspring, Silversun Pickups, and Johnny Cash singing “Hurt” by NIN. She was the one who introduced me to Ed Hardy and Sinful clothing. She’s 63 years old and a lot more hip than I am! People still think she’s my sister. Crazy. Rock N’ Roll, Mom!!!

For thirteen years running, I have owned my own mobile DJ service playing at weddings, company events, and private parties.
Now after pulling my head out, I FINALLY have a website!
It’s lovely, and the best part is that I did it all by myself! I’m so proud. It’s a little basic now, but there will be photos, as well as more bells and whistles added to it soon.

The Truth presents the 2008 X96 4-Play at The Avalon Theater! Last week Fail To Follow won, and The Market was the runner up. FTF will play the final round to play the main stage at the X96 Maverik Bash, and The Market will play the Live and Local stage.
For those of you who haven’t had any experience with 4-Play, it’s kind of a big deal. It’s the battle of the Utah bands to play at the X96 Maverik Big Ass Show Saturday September 27 at USANA this year. Sixteen bands are competing to play either the Live and Local stage (there will be seven), and the main stage (there will be only one).
YOU decide who will play. The only judge is you! Thursdays from August 28 to September 11 at The Avalon (3605 S. State Street in SLC) at 7:00 pm, four bands will compete for your vote to play at the Bash. 4-Play is always free! (isn’t that wonderful?) Each night there will be a runner up who will play on the X96 Live and Local stage, and one winner who will go on to play the 4-Play finals at Rice Eccles Stadium on September 20 before the Real Salt Lake soccer game. One finalist will share the same stage as Shiny Toy Guns, Hawthorne Heights, Jack’s Mannequin, Atreyu, Mindless Self Indulgence, Local H, From First To Last, Ludo, Ten Years, The Brobecks, and Trapt. The other three will play the LL stage with the four runner’s up.
You will vote via paper ballot and text voting each night at The Avalon. You get to vote twice! And bands, if your fans are sick, studying for their first pop quiz, on a better date, or if mom and dad can’t make it, they can text vote from anywhere that Thursday night you are playing.

X96 4-Play starts tonight!!!

The sole battle to play the main stage at the 2008 X96 Maverik Big Ass Show is at The Avalon Theater every Thursday night through September 11, starting this evening. Bands applied in July for this competition, and we chose the top 16 out of 74 entries this year.
It’s free, and Utah decides who will play the Live and Local stage (7 bands) and who will play the main stage. (just 1) What you need to do is show up at 7:00 pm, watch the four bands playing each night, (that’s 16 total) then vote by ballot and text. There will be two winners a night, then after 9/11 you choose out of the eight finalists online who will play the big stage at the Bash. The other seven will play the X96 Live and Local stage. The Avalon is at 3605 S. State Street in the good ol’ SLC.

What's cool about the Twilight concert series for me is that the yoga studio that I go to on Thursday afternoons is three blocks away from The Gallivan Center. So I usually park somewhere in between, walk to yoga class which amazingly gets out at 7:00, then walk to The Gallivan. AND I have sweet parking. Nada Surf should be great. I don't care if fifty million people go every week. I also want to pimp local visual artist Gregg Domm (Cignia) who does amazing stencil work on canvas and clothing. He'll sell his stuff there tonight in the art booths section, and he's at the Pioneer Park Farmer's Market every Saturday. http://www.cigniadesign.com

Ignore the rumors, Urban is NOT closing. From a reliable source I have been told that the private club is just switching hands.
And to prove it’s still open, I want you to join me at a show there tonight. It’s Kid Theodore (Provo), Or, The Whale (San Fransisco), and Calico (SLC) staring at 10 pm. Speaking of rumors, it is true that Calico will be disbanding. Lead vocalist and hottie Brady will me moving out of state to go to school. His talents and hotness will be dearly missed.
