Dallon Weekes of The Brobecks joins Panic at the Disco!

Congratulations!

Dallon Weekes of The Brobecks at the 2008 X96 Maverik Big Ass Show
I was sitting in the 7-11 carwash in Centerville yesterday morning after stopping for gasoline, orange juice, and Mentos on my way to work when I got a text from Dallon Weekes. It was such good news that I almost choked on my orange juice. He had informed me that Spencer Smith and Brendon Urie had asked him to join Panic at the Disco for the next little while as they tour with Blink 182. I’ve always been a huge fan of The Brobecks and I know how hard Dallon has worked to try to make a living as a musician. This couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. Dallon is the nicest, sweetest, most gracious person around. You rarely see a decent hardworking guy catch a big break, but it happened, and I couldn’t be happier. Give ‘em hell, Dallon. Good luck, buddy!

Train museum adventure!
Share:Monday, July 27th, 2009 @ 11:24AM
More train geek stuff.
My wife is so patient. She puts up with my train obsession and is always happy to take a trip to Ely, Nevada to the Historic Nevada Northern Railroad where I get to run around like a kid in a candy store. Or a kid in a train store…but with real life trains! We slipped away for a quick visit over the Pioneer Day weekend and here are a few pictures. I even got to drive a diesel locomotive. Watch for a video documentary of my adventures ... coming soon!

This is the SD9 locomotive that I got to drive for about 20 miles.

This is inside the cab of the SD9 locomotive. Richard of Nevada Northern Railroad is showing me how it all works.

The real star of Nevada Northern Railroad is the 1909 Alco steam locomotive.

Here I am foaming at the mouth over the classic Pullman passenger cars.

I’m leaving to become a train engineer!

That's one of my fantasies, anyway.
I’ll be sneaking away tomorrow and Saturday Nevada Northern Railway and Museum in Ely, Nevada. If you’re a train geek like me, this is like going to heaven. They have a fully operational rail yard and historic steam and diesel locomotives. There are train rides for everyone, and for the mega-geek, they offer the opportunity to rent a locomotive and be a student engineer. I’ve done this two times before and operated two different Alco vintage diesels. This time I’m taking the #204 for a spin. It is a 1956 SD-9 built by General Motors under their Electro-Motive Division. (Yes, GM makes more than Chevrolets.) I’ll make sure I get lots of pictures and possibly some video. If you or someone you know is a railfan, then you must make the trek to the Nevada Northern Railway.

Your band opening for Blink 182!

Details coming soon!
Blink 182 asked us to get a local band to open for their upcoming show on September 7th at UVU’s McKay Event Center. We’ll announce details about that next week. The only date on this whole tour where they are having a local band open for them is Utah’s concert. Cool, huh?

What to write about?
So what should I write about today? I could tell you about the Tool concert, that they are great—even if they do just stand there and play. I liked Maynard’s mohawk and he was cool even if all he did was prowl around the back of the stage in the shadows. Before the show my friend and I went to Squatter’s and he tried the Squatter’s “Devastator” beer. I love the label art for that particular brew ![]()
