OK.  You want a blog entry?  Very well, then.

For those of you who never know/care about me . . . I’m Tom, The Button Pusher At X96.  Sometimes I’m in the studio when the real DJ’s are out and about on remotes.  But I also do some writing in my spare time (Cheap plug:  Look for my latest article in the City Weekly on ska band Fews & Two). 

I’ve sometimes written a couple blogs for Todd when he hasn’t got a thing to say.  Well for better or worse, I ALWAYS have something to say! 

Which brings me to something that’s been bugging me:  American Idol.  I understand why kids think it’s popular, and I get that some of the contestants are finalists for a reason, they have talent.  I can live with that.  But why in the Blue Hell must they sing horrendous songs that have no lasting appeal outside of a high school prom?  Why must American Idol feel it necessary to broadcast the damn thing three times in a row each week?  and WHY oh WHY does anyone think watching the judges are the most entertaining form of the show?  I mean really, was anyone clamoring for the return of Paula Abdul?  Also, seeing a nearly gay Brit Slag off contestants is nothing new.  What makes Simon so different?  And Ryan Seacrest . . . why?  Just . . . why?

Tom I totally agree with you about the American Idol. I have avoided it best I could for the last 3 years but try as I might it never fails that I hear some horrendous version of a song that I may kind of enjoy when it’s sung by the professional that originally preformed it. But what do you do? Obviously we are in the minority so I guess we just suck it up and not watch Fox for however long this abomination is around.
