Corey O’Brien’s Concert and Community Calendar | Week of July 20th

Every Wednesday morning at 9, Corey O’Brien (x96, 7p to midnight) joins Radio From Hell to keep you from sitting home.

Have an event coming up? Submit it at using the form at the bottom of this post and Corey may feature it.

Wednesday 7/20

•Korn and Rob Zombie at USANA Amphitheatre

You secretly want to go. Your friends tell you they don’t want to go, but they do. Just have a quick intervention and get on the same page and go.

•Eagles of Death Metal at In the Venue

The elephant in the room…this band literally had a terrorist attack during one of their shows. That’s pretty heavy and for a lot of people, that’s how they may have first heard of this band. Putting that tragedy aside, they rock and while it won’t be the spectacle that Korn and Rob Zombie, but objectively the music will be better.

•Beachmen at In the Venue

It just so happens Beachmen is the X96 Live and Local artist for July. If you like Sonic Youth, The Strokes and bands of that ilk, you really should catch them. 21+ show.

•Styx at Ed Kenley Theatre in Ogden

Assume that anyone under 40 at this show is there because of this:

Thursday 7/21

•Twilight Concert Series: Chet Faker & Kaytranada

It’s finally here, which means summer will eventually have to end. Hop on your Schwinn and get to Pioneer Park for the kick off with the ever-chill, trip-hopper, Austrailian Chet Faker. Seriously though, get there early for Kaytranda for a little tasts of sparce beats and verse. Note: both artists are beareded. It’s Twilight.

Purchase Tickets.

Friday 7/22

•Real Salt Lake vs. San Jose Earthquakes

In a rare Friday night game, get your Pioneer (or Pie-n-beer Day – can we stop using this, please?) Day weekend rolling with a full 90 followed by a super-duper, mega fireworks show. Kickoff is at 9pm. Get a slice and a beer and enjoy sports.

Saturday 7/23

•Snowbird Big Mountain Trail Challenge

From the event page, “Snowbird Big Mountain Trail Challenge Benefiting Local Trail Organizations. This race is part of the Wasatch Trail Run Series (www.RunOnTrails.com) that hosts 10 Wednesday Evening Races as well as 2 Saturday Races (Corner Canyon Half & Snowbird Big Mtn Challenge). The 2016 season starts Wednesday, April 6th and runs thru August. The series is for everyone (beginner thru elite). For those wanting to participate in multiple races, a series point system is in place that awards runners not just for their placings in each race but also for their participation. See website for more info.” So ya know, do it for the kids if you’re fit. I’m not fit, but I’ll go watch.

•Suicide Squad Cosplay Night at Area 51

I basically read this as, “Hey ladies, try out that Harley Quinn costume before Halloween.” There will probably be a couple of Jokers, too and one guy dressed like Killer Croc, but he won’t get any play because everyone will just assume he has the face herp.

Sunday 7/24

•Pioneer Day at High West Distillery

A while back, some fashionable folks with handcarts locked this shit down. Drink Whiskey. There will be games, live music, food and it’s family friendly.

•Pie N Beer Day

Really, stop saying this. “TGIF”, “Oh Snap” and “You go girl” – wherever those are is where Pie N Beer Day should go die.

Monday 7/25

•Days of 47 Parade

But you already knew that. Catch Richie T. calling the live play-action around 900 East and 200 South. Wear a Cowboy hat.

Tuesday 7/26

•Weezer, Panic! at the Disco and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness at USANA Amphitheatre

This is just going to be a really good show. Plus, Andrew has new music on the way, so maybe we’ll get a preview.

•The Joy Formidable at Urban Lounge

One of the most highly underrated bands of the 2000’s, you have a chance to see them up and close at Urban Lounge. 21+
