X96 I.P.O. | November 13, 2016

EVERY SUNDAY NIGHT AT 9, COREY O’BRIEN PLAYS YOU NEW ALTERNATIVE.

This week we finally get a taste of new music from The xx – one of my all-time favorite bands. Sadly, I was not blown away. Hopefully, the track will make more sense in the context of an album. They sample Hall & Oats, which is something Panic! at the Disco does on every song of their albums these days and is quite boring at this point. The big surprise this week for me is the new STRFKR album that came out on November 4th. It could be a late contender to make my top ten albums of the year, though I am still enamored with Glass Animals “How to Be a Human Being.” We also got new music from Germany’s Milky Chance and Lucis who are performing at Park City Live on Tuesday. Here’s this week’s X96 Initial Public Offering of new music:

  • The xx “On Hold”
  • The Revitalists “Wish I Knew You”
  • Lucius “The Punisher”
  • Milky Chance “Cocoon”
  • Ella Vos “Little Brother”
  • Phantogram “Same Old Blues”
  • Hippo Campus “Boyish”
  • Catfish and the Bottlemen “7” (Lounge X performance)
  • Mondo Cozmo “Shine”
  • Bleeker “Highway”
  • Glass Animals “Youth”
  • Japandroids “Never to the Wild of My Heart”
