The X96 Live and Local Spotlight band for June 2015 is Big Wild Wings. Featuring Chris Sopher on drums, Lyndsi Austin on vocals, guitar and more, and Tyler Hummel who takes on keys and guitar, they have been together since 2012 after deciding, in Wendover, they should start a band according to an interview they did with City Weekly. The fact they have become one of the most noticed and talked about bands in the Salt Lake’s music scene in such a short time is quite an accomplishment. At the time I am writing this they are about to embark on their first tour – a 15-day jaunt along and around the West coast.
Frequenters of Urban Lounge, Big Wild Wings have been playing live around the state very steadily since their formation, even featured in an NPR Tiny Desk Concert. You can also catch them this month at the Utah Arts Festival. They released their LP, “Speaking in Cursive” last November and you can purchase it here.
