The Copper Onion

I hope this one makes it.

The Copper Onion is in one of those restaurant spaces where nothing seems to be able to survive.  Many places have given it a go at 111. East Broadway, right there by the Broadway theater on 3rd South.  Wasn’t it Mr. Z’s, an Italian eatery, for some time, and an Asian or sushi place as well?  Well, The Copper Onion has a good chance of sticking around, if my first visit is any precursor of meals to be eaten there.  Mrs. Bill and I were pleasantly surprised by our experience at this restaurant and the Broadway theater can only be helped by a good place to eat right next door.

The first order of business on our Saturday night visit was a cocktail.

I don’t usually order specialty cocktails, preferring a simple gin martini or a shot of Wild Turkey, or High West, but I decided on the Cucumber Gimlet while Mrs. Bill had the Bollicini.  Both drinks were very good.

We then decided to have an appetizer and three side dishes.

We had the cured meats and cheeses appetizer and 3 sides consisting of patatas bravas, brussels sprouts, and roasted cauliflower along with a red wine that the server recommended.  Everything was great, particularly the patatas bravas; spicey potatoes with that creamy aioli which was almost like cheese.  The bread that came with the curred meats and cheeses was excellent as well.  I believe all of the bread made at The Copper Onion is done in house.

I’m ready to go back.  I’ll try the duck confit, or the flatiron steak, or the meatloaf.  And who could not want to try something called pork belly salad?

Thanks for listening,

Bill

Matt in an out-of-work geologist. This is what he does instead of looking for a job.

Kidding of course, Matt…best of luck and we hope you find something soon.  The economy is not kind to scientists.

This could be the last day.

I’m gong to see a dermatologist today.  His recommendation will have a lot to do with whether or not I keep this experiment of no soap and no shampoo up.

Thanks for listening,

Bill
