Girly Stuff I Like

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008 @ 11:03AM

This is just one example.

There are girly things I like.  Real Simple Magazine is really designed for women, but I like it enough that I’ve decided to subscribe to it.  I asked my wife it was okay and she said, “yes!” Real Simple is one of the few magazines that I go through, cover to cover, several times.  I start at the beginning and go through to the end, skimming every page (even the ads) quickly.  Then, I go start at the beginning again and stop at various ads or articles that I want to take in more fully.  I linger on the recipes and on articles about organizing, decorating, or grooming products.  About the only thing I don’t take in in Real Simple are the fashion articles.  I’ve not much use for stories about how to buy a tankini or what shoes to wear with what summer dress.  I don’t usually read the ones about how to stop fighting with your mother, or be a better mother, or how to be a hip mother either.
It got me to thinking though....guys, what girly things are you not afraid to admit you like?  Let’s get a healthy discussion going here shall we?  For instance, I’m an absolute fiend for a good pedicure.  But more on these things later.  Until then…

Thanks for listening,

Bill

Girly things, huh.  Well, I do all the grocery shopping and cooking for my wife and I.  Once that would be considered girly, but I do not think so now.  I enjoy Bath and Body works coconut lime verbena shower gel and I now have a pair of exfoliating gloves, after I heard you speak of them on the show. Ok, that is fairly girly. I have emailed you several tips for your appearance and presence on 350 words or less. I would not have done that 10 years ago, though I would have thought about it. That hit a high note on the girly scale.  I have never had a pedicure, I might just try that now cause I get those split cracks on my heals.  I like a good Egyptian cotton, high thread count sheet, because they are cool and soft. I think that is manly comfort.  I tell my wife every morning if what she picked out to wear, matches well. I do not read real simple magazine, but I will pick one up next time I am at the book store, just to check it out.  I now buy all my boxers from CityBoxers.com, cause I like the terry cloth waist band, and a higher quality material than the tidy whities of my youth. Oh my god, Bill, I am just as girly as you are.  SIGH!

Girly Things???  Nothing wrong with girly things when in the right frame of mind or in the proper amounts.  I love the massages, ped or manicures and a nicely decorated home is “lovely"(how bout girly words?) to come home to.  I secretly read my wifes girly magazines and also love items from Victoria’s Secret...but admit I only love them on my girly wife…
I wish a magazine would publish ways to WIN a fight with my mom...THAT would be of interest to me!
    Thanks for letting me listen!

Well one girly thing that I have to admit I like is my wife’s car.  I’ll preface it by saying that the biggest reason I like it is because I drive around a piece of crap with over 200,000 miles on it, but she drives a new VW Beetle.  It is most certainly the girliest of all cars, but it actually is a pretty decent car, and I have to admit that I like driving it around.  I probably would mind it more if I were still dating and was trying to impress other women, but I’m married, and she doesn’t care if I like that car.

    I like lesbians.

    Does that count?

    Of course liking lesbians counts.

And, yes, the VW Beetle does seem to be a really girly car.  It’s that stupid flower they put in it.  Not a girly as a Miata though.

And please all of you...feel free to keep up the grooming tips and fashion suggestions.  We must stick together!  Girrrrlll Power!

    Thanks,

    Bill

Bill, the new term is METRO SEXUAL. You’re just part of this new wave of forward thinking.
Hey if it looks good, feels good, smells good - what the heck - boys or girls - enjoy!

I don’t see how liking “girlir things” is wrong.  Hell, I love Sex and the City, and I’m neither a girl nor gay.  As long as you are secure in your masculinity, who gives a rat’s ass what you’re into.

Is this the ‘girly confession’ area?  I’ll admit that I used to enjoy using my ex girlfriend’s facial mask.  I haven’t done it in eight or so years.  I do miss that smooth fresh feeling, although I’m doubtful it would have the same effect today.  I’m not the young buck I once was.

Maybe it’s my artistic side?  Maybe it’s because I’ve spent a life enjoying music and art?  Is it that artsy-fartsy taste that makes one appreciate all things feminine?  All I know is I love decorating my house.  I could spend all day in stores like Tai Pan Trading and Bed & Bath etc..  What scares me is watching some of those reality shows where the male decorators have this over the top flamboyance that scares me a little.  I have nothing against being gay or the fact that it draws decorators, hair-stylists, fashion designers and the likes but, is it ok to enjoy these things AND be a straight male?  No I’m not looking to come out of any closet nor do I fantasize about wearing panties, but I definitely enjoy the girly stuff.  You will however, catch me mowing lawns, underneath cars, finishing basements and all of those other manly things, but short of nail polish and a purse, I enjoy World-O-Feminine!!

Thanks for reading.  Thanks Bill and RFH for being on every morning and getting me to work.  You guys are awesome!!
