I Send Myself Off With Some Noise

Surprise, surprise, another noisy blog entry from Cody Dangel, consisting of another youtube video of a metal band you’ve probably never heard of. But don’t worry, this will be my last blog entry as an X96 Radio From Hell intern, and I’m sure things will get back to normal. And by normal, I mean non-existent. Seems as though the intern blog has lost some steam, some momentum if you will. Richie T. will have to start cracking the whip and getting these guys in line to get back on top of this intern blog situation.

But anyway, today’s featured video is from the band The Binary Code. The Binary Code is an unsigned band from New Jersey, who I was lucky enough to catch on the “Metal As Art” tour with Revocation. Here we join The Binary Code’s drummer Umar Fahim in the studio laying down the drum track to an untitled song. After watching them live, and witnessing the complete and total mastery of their playing skills, I have no trouble going out on a limb and saying that they will be signed sooner than later. For more about what’s going on with them, you can catch them at myspace.com/thebinarycodenj

So today marks the end of an era. The Cody Dangel era of The Radio From Hell Show is now officially over. It’s been a great ride and a lot of fun. I’ve met a lot of great people and learned a lot of skills that will help me to continue on the path to a successful radio career. Speaking of which, If you like the metal, or if you are just looking for something completely different, be sure to catch MAXIMUM DISTORTION with Forgach and Cody D. MAXIMUM DISTORTION can be heard every Wednesday night from 10:30pm – 1:00am (MST) at KRCL 90.9 FM in Salt Lake City, or the show can be streamed live worldwide at krcl.org
Many Thank You’s go out to Kerry, Bill, Gina, Richie T., and the many interns I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the past year.

Now Bugger Off,

Cody Dangel

My Two Cents On The 2010 Sundance Film Festival

Yesterday brought the end to The Sundance Film Festival, the end of my vacation, and the end to what my wife called, “the journey to CodyLand.” In the last 10 days I was able to watch 28 films, five short films, and meet some great people from all over the world. I was able to meet some talented directors and actors, which include Shawn Doyle (Big Love), David Hyde Pierce (Frazier), Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother), Louis C.K. (Lucky Louie) and Jason Ritter (The Dry Lands).

Almost everything I saw was worth while and recommendable, but there were a few that stood out from the pack. I’m more of a documentary geek so I tend to load up on documentaries and my favorites were “Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child”, “Restrepo”, “The Pat Tillman Story”, and “Smash His Camera.” And among the films in the feature category, I would recommend “Get Low”, “Mother and Child”, “Louis C.K.: Hilarious”, and “The Dry Lands”, and “Blue Valentine.”

But I must say, my most memorable 2010 Sundance Film Festival memory / experience was watching Richie T. gush over his meeting of David Hyde Pierce. While Richie T. proclaimed his man crush for Pierce and exuding the characteristics of a lovelorn school girl, I envisioned Richie scooping David Hyde Pierce in his arms and swing away on a chandelier like the Count of Monte Cristo. Classic!

Farewell Sundance Film Festival 2010, we’ll see you next year,

Cody Dangel

Typing before 6:00 a.m. is an awful thing.

What dangers lurk at our desk?

Announcer Intern here, with a message about typing before six in the morning. Don’t do it. You’ve probably just woken up recently (as recently as 1 hour ago). Did you drive to this keyboard? Good. You can drive, but you can’t type. There’s something about the keys being pressed with the desired outcome on the monitor that.. well, just loses sync at some point. Driving a car is EASY in comparison. Just stay between the lines. You’ve been learning that since your first crayola set. After that you start seeing driving movies, playing driving video games as you grow older. How many typing movies do you watch? Wait, you mean you’ve NEVER seen a feature film about typing, much less about the dangers of typing before 6 a.m.? That’s because there are no warnings for the danger that lurks underneath the plastic, concave pieces of molded plastic resting underneath your fingertips. There aren’t any typing GAMES either! That’s called work! That’s why I am telling you now - so you can know - that you simply MUST NOT do any typing before six in the morning. 6 a.m.

This arrogant bastard tried to type while walking - he’s been dead several hours.

Unless you have coffee. If you have coffee you need to do all the huggin’ typing you can. Go over to your neighbors house and type FOR THEM. Share your perculated, caffienated, hubba-hubba, burning your keys with typin speed love with them. Do you know why? It’s early. It’s REALLY early! They could slip, fall, and wind up with carpal tunnel. That sitting position they teach you for typing? It’s for your safety. It’s not just to make you feel like an uncomfortable dork while you sit and do office/home work. It’s the safest thing you can do next to wearing a bullet-proof kevlar vest in the rain or wearing a protective fire helmet and face shield while cooking bacon (CURSE YOU DELICIOUS GREASE!!!) Don’t your remember the keyboard cadence? Feet flat, straight back, eyes ahead, ‘else yer dead. But it’s hard to remember things when it’s six in the morning…

I’m comfortably writing this in the comforting bask of the soothing number seven. 7 a.m. Minutes don’t matter - just ask my cell provider.

Episode 1: The Intern Menace

Meet and greet

Good news everyone!  There’s a new batch of interns!

Me?  I’m so glad you asked!  I started a day before everyone else, and since I’m an Aries - and (not so) secretly waiting for Richie to get a better offer, so I can take over - the rest of the interns look to me for guidence.  My name?  The chat room crew knows me as Country Pete, due to a recent emcee/dj gig at a local country bar that will remain nameless.  In truth, that was the first time I had ever followed the country music scene.  I think Johnny Cash would be proud.

Bill called me his smoking intern.  That’s right kids, if you need to know anything about smoking, I’m your man.  So, we’ll stick with Smoking.  Feel free to shoot me a line if you need more information on something that happens during the show.  I’ve been a friend of the program for 10 years!~  I’m actually doing this internshp as I celebrate 10 solid years of FOPness.  It’s a dream.  Being the case, I’m glad to contribute and help other FOPs in any way I can.  Plus, it’ll make me feel special to get emails.

Stay care
