I love the little pain in the ass…

He's 10! Thats 70 to you and me!

I didnt want him.  I cant imagine life without him.  This is my dog Artie.  Named after X96’s own, Artie Fufkin who greets you at the door drooling and damn happy to see you.  Named after Artie, the producer on the Larry Sanders Show, whos job it is to protect Larry from the cruel outside world.  Named after R2-D2 who, always at Luke’s heals, joined him on many adventures.  He’s always been the one of the best things that have ever been forced upon me.  Just recently, he stopped going down the stairs.  I asked around and it was determined that his shoulders may have a touch of arthritis.  When he goes down the stairs all his body weight (a considerable 16 lbs.) is placed on his shoulders.  So, he just sits at the top and looks sad.  Were trying many treatments, suppliments and such.  In the meantime, I carry him down the stairs, and Sue has built a ramp for him to use to climb into bed with us.  This is a whole new experience for me.  The dogs and cats in my life have always “ran away” or “ Kitty went to help catch mice at a dairy farm where he will have fresh milk every day”.  Still not sure I beleive that one, Dad.  Kitty was, after all, lactose intolerant.

When I read the title of this blog I was sure that it would be about Richie.

If it were about Richie, Kerry would not have used the word “little”. Just kidding Richie.

I agree with Bill-- I was trying to guess if the entry would be about Richie, Bill, or Gina.

Or something completely different, like rectal thermometers…

For some reason I pictured Artie like the dog from Little Rascals. Weird....

It’s SO hard when you realize that your puppy is getting old!! Our dog Sam got the same way around 12. He had a hard time jumping on the couch so we would always lift him up. He got to wear he couldn’t see very well or hear anything but we loved him still!!! When we finally put him to sleep I was so sad. We had Sam for 14 years. He was like my other little brother… My suggestion is to get another puppy while you still have a dog. That when when Artie finally makes that trip to doggy heaven you won’t have an empty nest…

Don’t you love how “Rectal Thermometers” just rolls off the tongue.  And yes, I too am sadened that Artie is getting older, but I think Kerry should get a monkey as a pet.

I know how you feel.  I love my dog Izzy so much I bring her to work with me.  Just this morning Izzy woke me up whining to get into my son’s room.  So at 1:30am I stumbled up the stairs and opened his door for her.  That is dog love.

I pictured a golden lab actually.  Always sad when pets start getting older though.

See, and I was expecting instructions on sticking matches in the dog’s butt.

    Hang in there, Artie.

That look he’s giving the camera, I swear, it looks like how my girlfriend looks when I take her picture.  Annoyed, mad, yet cute.  Also, her hair is always in her eyes.

Have you tried Rimadyl?  I know the side effects can be organ problems, however, at this age, sometimes it’s about the comfort of the pet not the length of time left.

We had our little guy put down last fall.  He was only 11.  He got cancer.  He had horrible arthritis a lot of his life (crooked bones in his legs), but the rimadyly really helped keep him comfortable.

Kerry your story sounds just like mine, 16 years ago I got a christmas bonus. I wanted a new VCR. My husband and kids wanted a dog. I lost. But from the moment my husband brought her home, she had my heart. We lost her almost a year ago.

She was a German Shepherd so of course she had horrible arthitis in her back legs. We found that asprin worked best with her.  But please check with your vet first.  Good luck with Artie
