Proposing in public
Monday, March 31st, 2008 @ 10:34AM
Public or Private
I want to propose in public. NOT like on the Jumbo-tron or like in a parade or anything like that, but I want to do something really romantic for a lot of people to see. I feel like it says “I love this person, and I want EVERYONE to know it!”
Booster (My GF) wants a private proposal, just the two of us, scenic or romantically set, memorable etc.
Is this the first of MANY compromises?
On the air today I thought that maybe the best way to make both happy is propose to her quietly and romantically first and then in a public setting of choice. After further thought I have decided that I will ask her to marry me in Public (if I decide to ask her) and she can ask me in private if she wants to ask me first.
The race is on..

Trashity Tomorrow, Comedy Last Night
Friday, March 28th, 2008 @ 10:36AM
BUSY
I am ordinarily a pretty busy person but it seems like I cannot get a reprieve recently. Last night I performed at Sugar Space in Sugarhouse. It was improv comedy with some friends of mine from Quik Wits. Played a few games but wasnt up there for more than about 45 mins. It was a great little theatre spot available for rent in Sugarhouse.
Tonight I am escorting Bill at the Porn Debate. I am mainly just there so that Ron Jeremy doesnt try anything with Bill. Cant be too careful.
Tomorrow morning is our Adopt-A-Highway cleanup. Rain or shine. I am praying for clear weather, so if it rains you will know that I haven’t been as good as I am supposed to. Then I play the Scarecrow all day at the Desert Star. First time really stepping in. Should be fun, I am actually not too nervous about the whole thing...Actually I just want to get the first show over with so I can start relaxing.
...I wonder when I will sleep.

Its Different Without Bill
Monday, March 24th, 2008 @ 11:22AM
Do you notice it?
I wonder if it is just me, or do you notice the difference when one of the Radio From Hell show is not in studio. I really like the different matchups that occur. Its different both on the air and behind the scenes. I notice when it is Bill and Gina that there is a lot of giggling and less Gina “being lazy”. I notice that when it is Kerry and Bill that there is a lot more political talk and the show has a more serious tone...and of course today when it is Kerry and Gina the show is less news heavy and more whats going on in the moment.
I know that the three of them like to have all of them at the same time, but I really like the “occasional” opportunity for the show to go on without one of them. Just my two cents…

5 Worst Movies
Friday, March 21st, 2008 @ 11:01AM
Good Suggestion
In an email to Radio From Hell, someone asked what the 5 worst movies we have ever seen. It took a little bit of thinking but here is the list.
1. The Son of the Mask.
I really liked the original Mask. Jim Carey is a favorite. I should have taken the hint when he wanted nothing to do with this movie that it would be no good. But I went. It was TERRIBLE. I enjoy watching bad movies, but during this movie I actually wondered if I could get my money back.
2. Because I Said So.
Mandy Moore and Diane Keaton. AHHH… This movie actually cause a huge fight between the Booster (My gf) and I. She wanted to see something else but this was the only non R movie that I hadnt seen yet
3. Day of Defense
This is that old story about “Are the mormons Christians?” Only as it good as it could have marginally been done it instead had boom microphones coming in the top of the camera shot bad color, bad lighting. Notice I am not even going to begin to mention the acting.
4. Cloverfield
I know. Bring on Todd Nuke’em cause I know he liked this. But I didnt care for a single bit of this movie. The monster, LAME. The character story, LAME. The ending, SO LAME! Give me a camer. I will run 10 miles (90mins) We will call it “10 Miles”
5. The Book of Mormon Movie
I didnt hate it so much for the terrible acting because several of the people in this film were my friends. I didnt hate it because it white people playing the parts of Lamanites. I hated it for the gossip that was floated around that this was fulfilling prophecy and that prophets had seen a day when the Book of Mormon would be acted out etc.

In My Defense!

Let Me Explain
The movies on my top ten list are movies that most impacted me. They are not necessarily the best movies. Also I should point out that Mallrats made the list and yes I have seen it in all its Rated R glory. I liked it. Friends and I used to quote it.
I also feel the need to defend number 4, 5, and 6
4. Serendipity
Hopeless romantic, a plan for each of us to be with one specific person, and John Cusack.
This perhaps is a little gay, but, come on! A guy meets a girl gets the phone number in the book, constantly searches for the phone number, is about to get married to someone else then finds her....Written in the stars...Destined for love. It is great. GREAT
5. The Notebook
A kiss in the rain, and Rachel McAdams!
I thought the end was eh...I didnt care much for the story of the two older people, but Rachel McAdams who looks hot in everything she wears in this movie, plus the whole dad wont let me date this guy, guy rebuilds the house just the way she likes it, and again right before they get married to other peopel it works out for them.
6. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Shannon Doherty! Sarah Jessica Parker, tune in tokyo, and a dancing game show!
Perhaps the most gay of them all but it is great. People sneaking out cause they love to dance, upsetting the rich guys daughter, and you know from the second it starts there is going to be a DANCE OFF!
I guess I will do it. My Top 10 movies

Look Em Up
In no particular order
1. The Phone Call
Scott starts work at a drive-in burger and ice cream restaurant when his paper route proves inadequate to raise the money he needs for a mail order karate course. He has determined that this course will help him gain the self-confidence he needs to get up the courage to call and ask Pam out to see a movie. Although at first just commenting on his mistakes, Becky, a co-worker, offers to help him make the crucial phone call. In the process Scott offers insights about how Joe is abusive in his relationship with Becky. Favorite Lines “Don’t press your luck, Joe”, “It’s a long walk, I have long feet”
2. Forrest Gump
We’ve all seen it. It came out when I was in the 9th grade. To celebrate this movie coming out on video I had a party at my house, the cops came, I dressed up like Forrest Gump (pants, hat, shirt, the whole deal)
3. Back to the future
“Run for it Marty” “Hey you keep your damn hands off her” I used to cry at the point in this movie when Doc slips from the clock tower and hangs on from one hand.
4. Serendipity
Hopeless romantic, a plan for each of us to be with one specific person, and John Cusack.
5. The Notebook
A kiss in the rain, and Rachel McAdams!
6. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Shannon Doherty! Sarah Jessica Parker, tune in tokyo, and a dancing game show!
7. The Great Muppet Caper
The whole muppet gang. This was the first muppet movie I ever saw. I must have seen it a hundred times. I can remember watching it 3 times in one day growing up.
8. Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom
Oh dum she ba oh dum she ba. nough said
9. Dumb and Dumber
Bought this movie on a band trip in 10th grade. Watched it on a bus on my way to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. Had the best chicken noodle soup I have ever had on that trip.
10. Mallrats
O ye of little faith, wanna cookie? Kids hanging out in a mall, a topless psychic, beating up the easter bunny, and a fake dating game show.

Help with my High School Reunion
Monday, March 17th, 2008 @ 9:32AM
It'll be fun
I am in charge of Hillcrest High Schools ten year reunion. I am planning on it “Being Fun” but I know that 10yr reunions typically are a beating. I have planned at this point a day time activity where people can bring their kids, and a night time activity so that people can be childless. I have been told to keep it cheap but other than that I am not sure what to do.
When I planned the five year reunion we had a BBQ and had a band play. All the single people loved the band. All the married people with children at the reunion HATED the band. It seems like at these kind of events you either please one or the other.
If anyone has been to a reunion and wished for something different, or been to a reunion that actually was fun PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
I am going to start putting together all the details for this reunion when I am awakened from my sleep from the upstairs neighbors (Who AGAIN woke me up at 330 this morning!)

Poke and Tickle….All Night LONG!!!
Friday, March 14th, 2008 @ 11:08AM
AHH
So...the poke and tickle...Not a euphemism in this case. Last night my neighbors upstairs (The Sex Ones) Instead of actually having sex, they poked and tickled on and off for two hours. It wasn’t foreplay (not that I am exactly sure it wasnt) But all they did was poke...giggle, giggle, then run to the other room...Talk loud...run back to the bedroom, poke, tickle, giggle, giggle, run to the other room. Turn on the tv for a second..talk really loud...be quiet for a couple mins...then start the whole routine over again.
Best part, it is a different girl then the one a couple of weeks ago! Player overhead! I think that I am going to watch out for the two girls and pass them notes on their cars...That would solve my problem...for a little while at least.

I am on meth!….Kinda

Just Say No
I have been sick...That is why I have not been that diligent about my blogs. But, part of that sickness has been really enlightening. The doctor gave me 3 medications for my Ear/Sinus infection. One of those was Amoxicillin, an antibiotic to help me get over the whole infection. The next was a cough syrup that I had to be 21 to get (cause it contained Codine) which by the way relaxes you to the point that you feel drunk (or at least the feeling of being drunk since I have never actually been drunk. And then the final medication that they gave me was something called Pseudo Vent. What I assumed to be just a decongestant. And it is. However this particular decongestant has several of the same components as meth and speed.
It took two nights of not sleeping and then crashing for an entire afternoon to learn of the similar components in my drugs. Besides the “Just Say NO!!” campaign that came to my elementary school I have made the decision to never do drugs. It was the most uncomfortable, frustrating, disturbing feeling I have ever had. I can see the attraction to the drug for some because it really makes you feel like you have this endless amount of energy. But not being able to sleep and then the feeling of crashing to where your body cannot function is not worth it.
Say no to drugs

Interns fighting for my job
Monday, March 10th, 2008 @ 12:23PM
Hmm
I kind of like playing with the interns. I remember how anxious I was when I started interning here at X96. I would do whatever, whenever for the morning show.
This post isnt about me though, its about the current interns. They are both fantastic interns. Each have their own set of strengths and abilities that make them great for working in the radio industry. It is especially fun because we havent had interns this eager to work in the radio industry since “Pushy Brad” They both battle for the affection of Kerry, Bill and Gina and are always looking for opportunities to do more. Makes my job very easy. I feel like I have come to the point that I could not do my job without the help of my interns. By that I mean it would be impossible. What will they buy for RFH next? What will they do? How far will they go to compete? Is there even a prize for them in the end? I think I am going to have some fun with all of this.....

Anything for money
Bill called me a prostitute today. I didnt think that I was. I looked up prostitute on dictionary.com.
Prostitute One who sells one’s abilities, talent, or name for an unworthy purpose.
I guess I am.

So….Tired….
Thursday, March 6th, 2008 @ 11:50AM
I'm not stealing Arties schtick!
Whenever I blog I like to include a picture. Not for any good reason, I guess I just feel like I should include a picture. This picture came up like 15 out of 20 times when I searched “So Tired” in google search. It was mildly entertaining so I posted it. Thats about all i have...too tired to say or post anything else. Rehearsal was a little long last night in addition to still getting over my sickness, that would be enough to make me tired. But I laid in bed for like 2 hrs last night.

I get to be a Scarecrow, and a Tin Man!
Wednesday, March 5th, 2008 @ 11:44AM
Life comes full circle
When I was in high school I was part of a group called Vocal Ensemble. It was like any high school madrigals choir, only at Hillcrest High School this was the sought after group. Becoming a part of V.E. (as the kids called it) meant you had arrived, you were talented, and most importantly that you had the approval of the high school choir teacher. Mr. Bentley is his name. Mr. Bentley is one of those teachers that could demand the very best from each of his students and get it. If it meant late night rehearsals he would do that. Long Saturday rehearsals were no stranger to Mr. Bentley as well. Mr. Bentley also very rarely gave compliments. I should say he actually very rarely gave full on compliments. He would very often say things like “That wasn’t as terrible as yesterday” or “Well we almost got that right” but very rarely would you feel that Mr. Bentley was in fact proud and had no other motive or measure behind what he was saying.
What does this have to do with a scarecrow and a tin man?
Well. When I was in high school, aside from being in V.E. I was involved in a lot of other projects. My time was used in a lot of different ways. I didn’t committ as much time as I needed to Mr. Bentleys class. At the end of the year V.E. would do a “Pops” concert. Essentially it could be any sort of song from any genre. If it made it through auditions you would be in the concert. The catch was everyone had to either have a solo or group piece in the concert. I did not plan anything so when it came to auditions, I flubbed my way through “If I only had a brain” from the Wizard of Oz. He put me in the concert with a strict warning that I better rehearse if I didnt want to look like a fool.
I rehearsed. I got costumes. I focused. I saw the whole thing in my mind. Practiced in the mirror. Time came to do the show....I was towards the end. I stepped on the large stage all by myself. Sang the song, wore the costumes, did my choreography. The success in my mind came about when I didn’t screw up.
Later after the concert I found Mr. Bentley waiting for me. He hugged (not the RFH meaning of hugged) me and picked me up off the ground. “You did it! You did it!” he said.
One of my best days. Now I get to reprise those roles in the upcoming Wizard of Odd at the Desert Star Theatre

Rainy Days and Mondays get me down
Monday, March 3rd, 2008 @ 4:54PM
Eh....
I dont like not feeling well. I dont think that anyone does. It makes my day super long and for some reason I think that I get the brunt of the not feeling well. When most people dont feel well they can sleep a little longer and maybe go into work a little later. I unfortunately (and very fortunately) have to be at work the same time every day. Feeling good or feeling crappy. The nice thing is that on lousy days I can leave a little earlier than normal so that is a mark in the plus column.
I think that I have finally caught the crud that I bragged so much about not getting. I feel achy, worn out, under water and just plain miserable. I wish for a moment that I could have Zach Morris’ power to freeze time and just get better. Unfortunately, as I came to find out in my early twenties, not everything that happened on Saved by the Bell is real. Most of it is, but this is one of those random exceptions.
Lame blog today...I know...Sorry....
