Scooter Scooter Bo Booter

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008 @ 10:34AM

How gay, Real Gay!

I am not making a better case for my heterosexuality.  But last night I finally rode one of those Metropolitan scooters.  Thats right, I cased Gateway on an 06 Honda Metropolitan Blue scooter.  I should have known within seconds what I was getting myself into.  “Hey Queer, why dont you act like a real man and get yourself a bullet bike” But I did...I loved riding the scooter.  There is nothing to those things.  I should have gotten one when I was in college.

Tonight:  Producers at Pioneer Theatre Company!

My Old Radio Days

Friday, April 25th, 2008 @ 10:20AM

On my "man" date with Bill we ran into someone who remembered this.

Two Power 91 disc jockeys will spend 28 consecutive hours on top of the Providence Center lighthouse to raise money for multiple sclerosis, starting today at 5 p.m. and ending Friday at 9 p.m.

“Hopefully, the whole community gets involved with this,” said Richy T. Steadman, a senior theatre arts major from Draper and one of the disc jockeys.

Russ Wilde, a senior communication major from Springville and Power 91 morning show personality, said the purpose of the lighthouse stay is to “create a stir in the Providence Center and to get people to gawk at us, basically.”

Steadman said Wilde first thought of the idea.

“He kinda came up with the idea, and I talked to who I needed to to make it happen,” he said.

Permission was received from SUU and Providence Quantum Partners, the lighthouse’s owners, Steadman said.

“We didn’t have any problems,” he said. “Everyone has been more than willing to help.”

Various organizations and businesses have donated equipment to sustain the pair during their stay.

“The restaurants in the Providence Center are going to provide us with food, and we are getting outdoor gear from the (SUU) Outdoor Rec. Center,” Wilde said.

All the proceeds of the fund-raiser go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Utah chapter, which is based in Salt Lake City.

Brooke Upp, the chapter’s marketing coordinator, said Power 91 has been a big help in the past with creating awareness for fund-raising events, such as the 2004 MS Walk coming up on April 17.

“Power 91 has had a long relationship with the organization,” Wilde said.

There will be collection points inside most of the Providence Center businesses and at the base of the lighthouse, Steadman said.

He and Wilde said they hope to broadcast their 7 to 9 a.m. Friday morning show live from the top of the lighthouse.

“The only problem is electricity,” Wilde said.

They will call in to the radio station even if they are not able to broadcast, he said.

Steadman said the student-run station chose to raise money for multiple sclerosis because the wife of one of the disc jockeys suffers from the disease.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has invested more than $420 million since its 1946 inception to find a cause, treatments and cure for the disease, according to the Utah chapter’s 2004 fact sheet.

I’m Like a Gold Fish!

Monday, April 21st, 2008 @ 10:41AM

am I?

They say that a goldfish expands to the size of the container that it is in.  Well, I suppose in that respect I am like a goldfish.  Recently I moved in to Gina’s cubicle.  I have now exceeded the space that I am allowed.  It is just full of JUNK.  Lots of stuff that can be taken to the DI or just given away to people.  But the fact remains, MESSY!

I suppose the other way that I am like a goldfish is that I like my food in flake form and dropped above me so it will float down to me....and my excrement follows behind me until it falls off.

Honest to blog?

Thursday, April 17th, 2008 @ 10:42AM

I love that line from Juno....

Dear Blog:

It has been a while since we have chatted. Dont feel neglected. I have been really busy. Radio From Hells all-day show is coming up tomorrow. There is a lot that goes into making sure 13 hours of broadcasting goes off without a hitch. Right now I am writing you from the confines of my new cubicle (it used to be Gina’s cubicle but I needed a little more space) It was really nice of Gina to let me have her cubicle. She didn’t have to, and maybe didn’t want to, but having the more space for projects, etc that I have going on has already come in handy. I don’t know how Gina does what she does. She has A LOT going on but she manages to put all that aside and come in, day after day, and deliver a great show.

Also Blog, I have been busy doing reunion stuff like crazy! I know that there are people that I still have not contacted for the Hillcrest High School 10 year Reunion, but I have several very good people working for me. It is really funny to talk to people that I went to high school with, and even funnier to see them. Everyone I have seen looks about 35 pounds heavier than where they were the last time I saw them. Its funny how some people still are in the same cliques that they were in when attending high school. Others who hated me a long time ago seemed to have forgotten their hatred.

Also, I have been busy at the theatre. Lots of shows every weekend. I do 6 (high-energy) shows in a 30 hour period every weekend. The body gets tired. But there is always time for you Blog, there is always time for you.

Its A Bird, Its A Plane, Its Richy T?

Thursday, April 10th, 2008 @ 9:20AM

What i wont do

I have many jobs at the Radio Station.  I also have many jobs not at the radio station.  Some of them are: I do singing telegrams where I dress up and embarass people, I do comedy improv with a couple of improv comedy troupes, I am an actor in shows at the Desert Star Theatre, and I also work for a company called Go-Game.  I found out about that company from Craigslist.com. Go-Game is a company that sets up media scavenger hunts all across the country.  Some use these scavenger hunts as leadership training, others as a fun activity for a retreat.  In the past when I have done work for them it consisted of me dressing up like a gangster and hanging out in a coffee shop in Park City and dressing up like a mobster and hanging out at a coffee shop in Provo.

Yesterday while working for Go-Game I was asked to wear a Superman costume and hang out at...yep… The Wilkinson Center (the student center at BYU) or the Wilki as Provoans would call it.  For two hours I wore this costume and walked around.  The best part is that I had my picture taken several times with people that were just walking around the student center.

Its official..I will do anything for money

A few observations about BYU

1. Everyone at BYU is holding hands with someone of the opposite sex
2. You shouldnt have 3 kids and still be trying to get your bachelors
3. If you are rebellious in Provo you have to say either “Of Frick Man That Frickin’ Sucks” or “Ah H it’s hot” or “Oh D I forgot my school books”

Worst Morning Ever!!!!

Monday, April 7th, 2008 @ 10:12AM

Not a blog hog!

I’ve got a bad feeling about this.

-I. Jones

Perhaps I should have gone with the feeling that I had all weekend long.  But maybe not.  Bad experiences just like good experiences are exactly that, Experiences.  Let me relate to you what I am talking about.

We decided in conjunction with the Rock In UVU concert down in Utah County that we would do another live broadcast.

I like doing the live broadcasts.  It allows RFH to meet with people in other locations.  It also helps get the word out about the greatest morning show ever.  One other thing about live broadcasts is that it creates memories.  Your mind might go back to the Pie Dump of yester-year when upon first attempt of broadcast I forgot to bring the necessary radio equipment.  The broadcast ended up being scratched and we had to make good with another broadcast a few weeks later.

Today followed suit with the fantastic track record of Live Broadcasts.

Lets start shall we.  All weekend long I had a terrible feeling about this broadcast. Couldn’t figure out why exactly, just thought that maybe I had forgot something, not called someone, etc.  But as I ran it through in my mind I could not think of what I might have forgotten.

I worked the midnight to 5am shift this morning so it gave me plenty of time to get all that I needed ready for the show.  Had all the news, sponsors, newspapers, everything for the broadcast. At 5am I sent a text to Tom (our Board operator when we are gone) and to Ben (the magician who makes all of our equipment work) I immediately heard back from Tom…..Nothing from Ben, so I called him.  Nothing.  At this point I get worried, text again…nothing. Then another phone call and a startled, apologetic voice on the other end says hello.

The apology of “I forgot about this remote” quickly follows.  Quick thinking led us to decide to continue on with the remote, perhaps starting a little late.  I agreed that this was the best as Kerry Bill and Gina were already on there way down to Orem.  I made the choice to get the Short Bus and send Ben along to Orem to get the show started.

I arrive at the garage where our short bus is stored.  Get past the alarm and locked doors, only to find a door that “is never locked” to be…You guessed it  LOCKED!!!!!!

I found another way in, got the keys, and thought surely no more problems and could still have a successful slightly late starting remote.

How wrong I was! I got the bus out of the garage got the doors all locked and started for the freeway on-ramp.  Gas gauge on E. E for empty.

Ok I can get some gas.  There has to be a pump that is open dishing out diesel this morning.  NO! No downtown pumps with diesel.

Ok the light isn’t on so I must have a enough to get down I-15 towards one of the stops that a trucker would make right off of I-15. Nope.  Right around 3300 South the bus starts to chug…chug….chug…and die.  Then I thought to coast to the off ramp.  Negatory, busses don’t coast. I pull off the side of the road out of the way of traffic and am safe.  Couldn’t get worse, right? I call the cops.  I know that they bring gas to people who run out..They however don’t carry diesel!

Stranded and waiting for a tow service to bring diesel.  Diesels have to be towed because when they run  out of gas, the gas runs out of the injectors as well.  Tow truck arrives…..6:51am.

I got to the car dealership...(one where I was recognized for having done a singing telegram on valentines day) and got a doughnut and hot chocolate. The only good part of my day.

I gave up trying to get to the remote in Utah County...Worst Day of broadcasting ever!!!

My Conference Report…Generally speaking

Monday, April 7th, 2008 @ 2:44AM

10 hours in 300 Words

I recognize that most people if they wanted to watch conference they would have done so.  But perhaps there are a few out of you that wanted to watch, but couldn't for whatever reason. For example, I couldn't watch Saturday afternoon or the Priesthood session on Saturday night cause I was busy being a scarecrow.

Here is my brief but concise summation of this weekends General Conference so when the folks are gathered around and talking you can throw in your two cents.

1st Session

Parents, be parents.  Set a good example.  Do what you say you are going to do.  Get your money in order.  Keep a house of order.  Love your kids, be grateful your kids. BE PARENTS.

Oh...And we all support President Monson.

2nd Session

Busy Being a scarecrow

Priesthood Session

Still a scarecrow

3rd Session

If you know how the term Christian is defined....Mormons are Christians.

Oh....and we all have President Monson's back!

4th Session

Love each other....Seriously....Love each other....We miss President Hinckley but.....

We all have President Monson's back

You may want to get further details...or this may suffice....

Dick Nourse wants the Richie T Experience

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008 @ 11:07AM

Good Looking Dick!

Last night I drove down to Cedar City to speak at the Southern Utah University Broadcasting Banquet.  It was the current students of broadcasting in addition to a couple of alumni.  Heidi “The Groove Thing” intern was also in attendance (being a fellow Thunderbird).  We both spoke about what we thought brought us to where we are, and what we would tell others who are up and coming.

I started off my “talk” by knocking over several gift bags intended for the banquets award recipients. Once I broke the ice (being an idiot) I got to the meat of my “talk”

Three KEY points to succeeding in Radio

1. Leave your ego at the door
2. Never Say No
3. Committ fully.

I wont bore you with the details that fall under each of those but I felt very good about what I had shared.

One of our upcoming interns was in attendance (He will be an awesome intern look forward to hearing more from and about him)

But the best part of the night was after Heidi and I had spoken to the kids, Dick Nourse got up and started out by telling me I had the right idea.  He said and I quote.... “I should have called myself Richy T, picking the name “Dick” as a broadcaster was a bad mistake”

Take that! Mwa ha aha hah ah...I am think of changing my name now to Richy T Nourse

The Best Equipment X96 Can Afford

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008 @ 10:51AM

Not a Joke

Often times in the morning Kerry Bill and Gina will make remarks that we have poor equipment, or the printer doesnt work, or its too hot or too cold, or buttons get stuck or the studio is dirty.  All of those things I just kinda shrug my shoulders to and go about my work...But today when I came out of my studio and saw our mop bucket i couldnt help but chuckle.  This has got to be THE OLDEST MOP AND MOP BUCKET EVER!!!!!  Things actually get dirtier after you use this mop/mop bucket.

If you ever you questioned whether or not they just made stuff up to talk about on the air....Now you know.  They dont!

P.s.  Does anyone know a good caterer?
P.s.s. Didnt get a whole lot of help with the whole hip hop classes...anyone?
