Proposing in public

Monday, March 31st, 2008 @ 10:34AM

Public or Private

I want to propose in public.  NOT like on the Jumbo-tron or like in a parade or anything like that, but I want to do something really romantic for a lot of people to see.  I feel like it says “I love this person, and I want EVERYONE to know it!”
Booster (My GF) wants a private proposal, just the two of us, scenic or romantically set, memorable etc.

Is this the first of MANY compromises?

On the air today I thought that maybe the best way to make both happy is propose to her quietly and romantically first and then in a public setting of choice.  After further thought I have decided that I will ask her to marry me in Public (if I decide to ask her) and she can ask me in private if she wants to ask me first.

The race is on..

    Hi Richie,

I understand you love Booster, and she is a lovely woman.  But really, why is it necessary to show EVERYONE that you love her?  In my opinion, you wanting to put on a show for everyone is mostly to prove:

    A) I can get a hot woman, or:

    B) I’m not gay!  I never have been gay!

All teasing aside, if you do love love Booster, you should be considerate of her wishes and needs.  An really, you perform enough onstage and on-air.  It’s OK to take a break from it once in a while.

    Your Friendly Neighborhood Button Pusher,

    ~Tom

I agree with Tom and you should respect that she wants it to be more of a private thing. If you feel the need to have an audience maybe compromise by asking her in front of family and close friends rather than just random strangers.

I think you should ask her privately and then pull a prank on your family and friends by asking her publicly after that and have her plan to say no. It’ll be a good laugh for the both of you…

Seriously, aren’t you just marrying that one person??? Shouldn’t she feel like the only person in the world??? It will mean more to her if it’s just the two of you instead of her being uncomfortable and hating that you’re asking in front of everyone you ever knew.

My husband had the public help him to propose to me privately.  He works in news so he had a bunch of tv personalities ask me to marry him and also had Greg Foster who was with the Jazz at the time ask me.  He took this video clip he made and inserted it into the middle of a copy of Mallrats and then invited me over to watch a movie one night.  Right in the middle of the movie pops up the proposal clip.  It was a fun way.
