It turns out electric cars might not be the future of transportation after all.
The California company Hyperion has unveiled a “supercar” that can travel up to 1,000 miles on a single tank of hydrogen. What’s more, the XP-1 — which resembles a futuristic Batmobile — features a 1,000 horsepower engine that can take the car from zero to 60 in less than two seconds, the company says.
While the vehicle is being marketed as an alternative to gas- and electricity-powered cars, it actually uses hydrogen to generate electricity, which in turn powers the engine, according to Hyperion CEO Angelo Kafantaris. There’s no word on a release date or price for the new vehicle.
