Washington State Officials Change Road Sign Made Famous By Nirvana

Officials in Washington State just changed a road sign that was made famous by Nirvana so fans can no longer make a pilgrimage to the side of the road where it’s installed. The sign shows the distance to the cities of Elma, Montesano, and Aberdeen, with each of the mileages ending in 6. Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic took a now famous photo covering the numbers so the sign read 6, 6, 6. In August, WSDOT changed the Aberdeen distance to read 27 miles, claiming that the actual distance is 26.6 so they’re merely just rounding up. A spokesperson for the state agency said too many fans were risking their lives to recreate the photo.
