Minor Threat Bassist: ‘We’ll Never Play Shows Again’

Before the coronavirus pandemic shut down this year’s concerts, reunion tours had just started to become popular — resulting in such bands as Motley Crue, Rage Against the Machine, and Bikini Kill cashing in on the nostalgia craze. But don’t expect to see Minor Threat among them anytime soon.

Bassist Brian Baker says he and his former bandmates have no interest in regrouping. “We will never play shows again,” says Baker, who went on to join Bad Religion in 1994. “It was a product of its time. It’s so much better to leave it alone than ruin it by being a bunch of old guys playing songs that we wrote when we were teenagers.”

In fact, Baker says he feels a reunion would destroy whatever legacy Minor Threat left behind. “Doing a re-enactment of Minor Threat would not be satisfying and, I think, would be more harmful than helpful,” he says. “Everyone likes the idea of seeing Minor Threat play, but I think if they actually saw it, they wouldn’t like it anymore.”
