Avenged Sevenfold’s ‘Waking the Fallen’ goes Platinum

Eighteen years after it first dropped, the Avenged Sevenfold album “Waking the Fallen” has been certified platinum, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

The award, which commemorates sales of more than 1 million copies, comes as the album’s first single, “Unholy Confessions,” reached gold status for sales of at least a half-million copies, the RIAA reports.

The certification marks the second Avenged Sevenfold album to go platinum following the group’s 2005 album “City of Evil.”

Why does it take so much longer these days for albums to reach gold and platinum status? Should the awards be changed from records to something more modern?
