Boner Candidate #1: HE DIDN’T JUST INVESTIGATE IT, HE LIVED IT.

A top official at the Office of Congressional Ethics, which investigates allegations of misconduct against lawmakers, has been accused of assaulting and verbally abusing two women during a drunken bar brawl in 2015, according to a federal lawsuit filed in Pennsylvania. Omar Ashmawy, the office’s staff director and chief counselor, was at the Dimmick Inn in Milford, Penn., when he allegedly became “verbally abusive” towards the wife of the owner of the restaurant, Dawn Jorgenson, and a female bartender, alleges the complaint, which was first obtained by Foreign Policy. “Ashmawy, who appeared to be visibly intoxicated, then unjustifiably threw and/or pushed Mrs. Jorgenson down to the floor and/or into the hostess stand,” says the lawsuit, which was filed by Greg Martucci in September. Martucci said he also saw Ashmawy assault Jorgenson’s pal, Christina Floyd, according to the papers. At one point, he pulled Ashmawy away and took him “outside away from the scene of the altercation,” the lawsuit says.

Boner Candidate #2: HO HO HO. OH OH OH.

A burglary suspect in California reportedly had to call the police on himself earlier this week after getting stuck in a chimney. According to police, Jesse Berube, 32, was allegedly attempting to rob a business in Citrus Heights and thought he could slide in through the chimney. But once he tried, he found himself stuck on Wednesday with no way out on his own, police said. Berube was reportedly able to move just enough to reach his phone and dial 911. Responders from the Sacramento Fire Department arrived at the scene and used special equipment to get the suspect out. Berube was removed from the tight space uninjured but now faces one count of burglary, police said. Authorities referred to the man as a “criminal Santa” but said he “does not have the same skills as the real deal.”

Boner Candidate #3: YES, IT’S HISTORY; RACIST HISTORY.

A restaurant in Texas is defending itself against racism allegations after hanging a sign that uses a derogatory term for African Americans and depicts a blackface caricature. The sign, which features cartoonish blackface with “Coon Chicken Inn” printed on the grinning teeth, has made the rounds on social media with many calling it “racist” and “infuriating.” Cook’s Garage in Lubbock, TX, claims the controversial sign is “part of history,” according to Everything Lubbock. The restaurant, which reportedly features other vintage signs as part of the aesthetic, denied any racist intent in a now-deleted Facebook post. “Aunt Jemima, mammies, and lots of other black collectibles are highly sought after, as is Americana collectibles with white characters,” said the message, The Root reports. “The Coon Chicken Inn was an actual restaurant started in the 20’s. Again, we want to stress we do not intend to offend anyone, and are only preserving a part of history that should remind us all of the senselessness of racial prejudice.”
