‘Nevermind’ Producer says Album Wouldn’t be a Hit Today

The producer of Nirvana’s “Nevermind” says the groundbreaking album wouldn’t be so groundbreaking had it been released today.

“If ‘Nevermind’ came out this week, despite being a great record, it would not have the same cultural impact,” says Butch Vig. “It was perfect timing coming out when there was a shift in music and it felt like a revolution. I can see that happening again, but not in the same way.”

The 1991 album produced four hit singles and has sold more than 10 million copies since its release.

Do you agree with Vig? If Kurt Cobain was still alive, would Nirvana still be making hits?
