Boner Candidate #1: THAT’S HOW CAMPAIGNS SHOULD BE RUN MATE.

Australian lawmaker Bob Katter drew online complaints on Wednesday after posting a campaign video in which he shoots dead political opponents just days after a gunman killed 49 people at an Orlando gay nightclub. The video, uploaded to his social media channels, features two men wearing shirts for Australia’s major political parties, the conservative Liberal Party and center-left Labor Party, putting up an “Australia for sale” placard. Seconds later the video cuts to a smiling Katter, blowing smoke from the barrel of a gun as the camera pans down to the two men apparently lying dead on the ground. But the timing of the ad, just three days after gunman Omar Mateen shot dead 49 people in the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history, drew sharp rebukes on social media.

Boner Candidate #2: IS THIS PART OF THE SHOW?

On Monday, during a big cat “training session” show at the Oregon Zoo, a lion named Zawadi was injured while a crowd of children looked on. Footage of the shocking incident shows Zawadi entering the indoor stage through a hydraulic door, which then proceeds to shut with him still underneath — chopping off the tip of his tail like a guillotine. Despite being aware of what happened, the zookeeper presenting the show carries on.

Boner Candidate #3: KIDS TODAY, THEY DO THE DARNDEST THINGS

A young girl told police she tried to kill her mother after she was grounded for smoking. The 11-year-old daughter was grounded for smoking, and an argrument broke out between mother and daughter. But detectives said that things calmed down for a bit, and that is when mom went to bed. Then, police said that her daughter grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen. “[She] walked to the room where the mother was at, made a statement to the mother that, how she wished the mother would die,” said Det. Sgt. Troy Gilleylen, with the Battle Creek Police Department.

Boner Candidate #4: A LADY VETERAN? COME ON!

Women have taken great strides toward gender equality in the military, but it seems there’s still a long way to go before misogynists realize this. Rebecca Landis Hayes was running errands at a shopping center in Concord, North Carolina, on Monday when she pulled into a parking stall reserved for veterans. When she returned to her car, she found a rude, handwritten message taped to her windshield: “This parking is for veterans, lady. Learn to read and have some respect.” There’s just one problem: Hayes is a veteran.

Boner Candidate #5: AH, UGANDA

As we continue to mourn for Orlando, it’s important to not lose sight of homophobia’s status as a global problem. Offering some depressing perspective on that note is a story out of Uganda—which remains a horrific place for LGBT people and where homosexual activity is illegal— via KuchuTimes, “Africa’s first collective online radio, television and news platform focusing on LGBTI issues in Africa,” according to its Twitter. Reportedly, several students have been expelled from western Uganda’s boys-only Mbarara High School after being shamed and tortured by fellow students for being gay.

Boner Candidate #6: TARGET TO THE BREAST MILK RESCUE

A young mother’s attempt to breastfeed her child at a Target store in Connecticut turned awkward after an angry man started yelling at her and calling her names. Luckily, there was a happy ending. Jessie Maher of Collinsville was at a Target in Torrington Monday and sat down in the cafeteria area to feed her 1-month-old daughter. A man who was purchasing food looked at her angrily and asked, “Can’t you do that somewhere else? That’s f****** disgusting.” He also called her a “whore,” according to Fox61.com. Maher, a doula, started taking video of the outburst, which she later posted on Facebook.  As Maher was defending right to breastfeed, a few Target employees came into the cafeteria, as well as another customer who was livid at the man’s actions.
