COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

Utah upset No. 14 Stanford 40-21. The victory gives the Utes their first Pac-12 win and was highlighted by a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown by Jaylon Johnson and two touchdowns by RB Zach Moss. Tyler Huntley was 17-of-21 passing with 199 yards, including a TD (off one foot) to Sampson Nacua. Next up: Utah hosts Arizona, Friday at 8 p.m.

In the showdown of Utah State vs. BYU, it was all Aggies beat the Cougars 45-20 in Provo to keep the Wagon Wheel. Next up for the Aggiesis UNLV in Logan on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Weber State lost to Northern Arizona 28-24. Next up: Eastern Washington Saturday at 4 p.m.

Snow College, now 4-1 with a 63-21 win over Mesa Community College. He moved back to Utah with the team in the spring, and the 17-year-old just signed a contract for the 2019 season.

 

NFL:

The NFL featured some close games, including the Cleveland Browns second win of the season. Rookie kicker Greg Joseph hit a 37-yard FG with two seconds left in OT to give the Browns the 12-9 victory  over the Ravens.

Real Salt Lake:

RSL lost to Portland 4-1. They travel to New England on Thursday and  then host Portland at home on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. to end the regular season. That loss jeopardizes their playoff hopes as they’re currently in sixth place (the final spot) with just a single point separating them from the teams above and below.

UFC

UFC 229 ended with controversy after Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted Conor McGregor Saturday night in Las Vegas. But after a fight broke out, the Nevada State Athletic Commission decided to hold Nurmagomedov’s $2 million fight purse. They originally planned to hold McGregor’s $3 million, as well, but UFC president Dana White said after reviewing footage of the fight, they decided to release his paycheck.

Three people believed to be part of Nurmagomedov’s team were arrested, including one who jumped into the Octagon and sucker-punched McGregor.

Real Monarchs:

The Real Monarchs beat the OKC Energy 2-1. They finish the regular season by hosting Fresno on Saturday at 8 p.m.

They’re now sitting fourth in Group B – just one point ahead of Reno 1868.

Utah women’s soccer team upset No. 7 Washington state on an overtime goal from Holly Daugirda, a Skyline High alum.
