Netflix Commits Largest Budget So Far For ‘The Gray Man.’

EXCLUSIVE: Fresh from an earnings report that saw it add 10 million subscribers during the pandemic, Netflix has just set its most financially ambitious feature film so far. Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans are set to star in The Gray Man, with AGBO’s Joe & Anthony Russo directing their first blockbuster since setting the all-time global box office record with Avengers: Endgame two years ago. The intention here is to create a new franchise with a James Bond level of scale and a budget upward of $200 million. The Russos’ AGBO is producing, and the script was written by Joe Russo, with a polish by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who scripted the Russo-directed Captain America and Avengers films and who are Co-Presidents of Story at AGBO. It is based on the 2009 Mark Greaney novel that introduced the Gray Man, a freelance assassin and former CIA operative named Court Gentry. The film will be produced by AGBO’s Russo Brothers and Mike Larocca, along with Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum for Roth Kirschenbaum. They are eyeing a January start date in Los Angeles with international locations being finalized.

Keanu Reeves’ resume contains an assortment of iconic roles over his years as an A-list movie star, but he’s breaking new ground with his latest job: comic-book writer. Reeves strikes a humble note when talking about his creation, the oming 12-issue limited series “BRZRKR” (Boom! Studios, out monthly beginning Oct. 7). “I guess I’m in the writing room,” he tells USA TODAY. While in Berlin for “Matrix 4” rehearsals prior to filming resuming on the expected sequel, Reeves says he’s been “Skyping pretty regularly” with co-writer Matt Kindt. “We’re excited about what’s happening,” Reeves says. “The story’s taking some really interesting twists and turns.” Illustrated by Alessandro Vitti, the action-packed and hyperviolent “BRZRKR” centers on a warrior who looks a lot like a certain beloved actor and has walked a blood-soaked path across the world for centuries. In present day, the Berzerker performs dangerous jobs for the U.S. government in exchange for the truth about his existence.

Gremlins: Howie Mandel Will Not Voice Gizmo in HBO Max’s Animated Series

Howie Mandel will not reprise his role as the voice of Gizmo in HBO Max’s upcoming Gremlins animated series. Tze Chun talked about the new project, entitled Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, in an interview with Geekvibesnation. “Howie Mandel is not returning to voice Gizmo,” Chun said. “But we will have some casting announcements soon.” Though Mandel will not be playing the lovable Mogwai, Chun did confirm that there will be some exciting cameos, and Joe Dante, director of the original Gremlins, is a consulting producer on the series. There will also be “Easter eggs and Gremlins mythology that hopefully will satisfy long term fans while also bringing in new fans.” Set against a backdrop of Chinese mythology, Secrets of the Mogwai will focus on Mr. Wing, the shop owner and Gizmo’s caretaker before the events of the first movie, as a 10 year old boy in 1920s China meeting the creature for the first time. It is expected to air on HBO Max in 2021.
