The LAPD’s Hollywood Division has set a new record — although it’s unclear whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Tinseltown officers took at least 585 people into custody Monday, setting an all-time high for single-day arrests. While about 20 of the arrests were for looting, most were for curfew violations, police say. Officers also impounded 50 vehicles, the LAPD reports. Police spokesman Josh Rubenstein says the people taken into custody in Hollywood make up only a fraction of the city’s total arrests. Officials are still tallying the numbers from surrounding neighborhoods, he says.
