A Florida man taking pictures of his son surfing caught something unexpected in the shot: a huge manta ray that measured at least eight feet across.
The incident happened Sunday at Satellite Beach, where Rusty Escandell and his family were enjoying the sun and surf. “I saw the splash behind the surfer I was photographing using burst mode catching several frames in a row, but didn’t realize it was a manta ray until I got home and was reviewing the picture,” Escandell says.

After Escandell posted the shot on Facebook, it received more than 1,000 “likes” almost immediately, he says. “It seems like many are enjoying it,” he adds, “and that makes it all worthwhile.”
