These heroes could have used Wolverine’s star power; Disney’s The New Mutants earned only $8 million on its opening weekend, which doesn’t exactly cover the film’s $67 million budget.
Now, to be fair, only around 50% of America’s movie theatres are open. Then, those that ARE open are only operating at around 30% capacity. So, you could say that The New Mutants were no match for 2020’s most evil villain, the Coronavirus pandemic.

Buuuuut…but a large majority of those who ventured out to see the movie wish they hadn’t wasted a face mask; The New Mutants has a 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Is the pandemic solely to blame for the film’s opening weekend? Were people fatigued the 2-year delay of the film’s release? Are people still so upset by Wolverine’s death in 2017’s Logan that they refuse to let new mutants into their lives?
