TSA Reboots Flight Attendant Self-Defense Programs Amid Spike In Unruly Passengers

The Transportation Security Administration has stepped up efforts to train flight attendants in self-defense against unruly and violent passengers.

A TSA official in Denver said the program is designed to give crews “more confidence” in protecting themselves and other passengers on a flight.

According to the FAA, there have been nearly 5,000 reported incidents of unruly passengers on planes this year; 882 were investigated as “violent.”

In 2019, that number was 146.

Have you been on a flight where there was a problem passenger? What do you think is fueling a spike in these incidents?
