X96 Meet the Bands with Blue October’s Justin Furstenfeld

Blue October performed at USANA with 311 at the USANA Amphitheater on Saturday, August 12th with other special guests New Politics and DJ Spider.

“Yeah, I’m kind of freaking out because I grew up on 311 and I’ve always wanted to play with 311 and I am going to probably fanboy really big and make an idiot of myself just be prepared to hear about the restraining order that will be slapped on me. I remember in 1996-97 we were all rehearsing in a band in our little garage and that’s all we would listen to.”

Drugs and Depression

“I used to do a lot of drugs and be quite and A hole and quite a loser and since then have sobered up 5 years and 2 months sober and the best life I’ve ever known.” Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington chose a different way to deal with these problems and with a shared dark past, what were the feelings of these tragedies? “The Chester thing really messed me up because we were friends.” “I don’t even know how to fathom it, I don’t know of any reasons why he would do it. I don’t even know how to speak about it, t just really messed me up that that was real…” “There’s a song on our new album about him.” There is a major high when performing but when getting off the stage there is an overwhelming feeling of loneliness almost instantly, “I used to feel that constantly, you know I mean I’m not trying to say that I have it all figured out but for me I do have it all figured out…”

New Album

“We got to hear a small bit of news music from the new album which will be coming out earlier next year but when will we get the first full taste? The first single is coming out the first of the year… I wanted to put it out for Christmas but I have a good manager and he was like ‘no no no no you want to put it out at the beginning of the year’, so I’m going to put out a little acoustic thing for Christmas for people and then I’m going to release our first single and it’s going to be awesome and we’re going to rev up and do it with a tour…”
