LA Times Criticizes Nirvana Reunion

Well, you can add one person to the list of people who weren’t happy about the former members of Nirvana reuniting on stage this past weekend to play the grunge rockers’ classic songs. A writer for the Los Angeles Times panned the show, claiming that, “Kurt would have cringed.” Meanwhile, the fan response on social media to Saturday’s six-song-set at the Cal Jam festival in San Bernardino, CA was overwhelmingly supportive. Joan Jett and Deer Tick’s John McCauley picked up vocal duties for the late frontman. According to the newspaper’s review, the performance made them “feel squeamish about the circumstances” and that “Cobain would almost certainly have cringed had he been able to envision a scene even as well-meaning as this one.”

The Times did find one shining part of the performance, admitting that “The music was warm and enveloping — a peaceful finish to a night full of happy memories.”
