Our 20 Favorite Jack White Songs for His 40th

It was a scene of the “The” bands. The Vines, The Strokes, The Killers, The Warlocks etc.

Sure, it was a bit of a trope for a brand of hipster band, a new and old sound, that was emerging. A scene radio (and I know since I work in radio) that didn’t really embrace the way it did with the grunge scene. Maybe none of it was really that great to begin with. I am biased in that respect. For crying out loud, I hold a holiday once a year called Strokesgiving (it’s not what it sounds like).

Going through all these songs I was amazed at how many memories I have had for better or worse to this guy’s music. I was listening to one of his solo albums when I decided to end a relationship. I have listened to The Dead Weather while sharing a bottle with friends on a Sunday night talking about all of our favorite artists. I remember hearing “The Union Forever” for the first time while working on a paper about “Citizen Kane.” Needless to say, I am looking forward to a new album from The Dead Weather this fall. Some music just gives you a swagger when you hear it.

Well, today is the 40th birthday of the guy who gave us The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather and The Jack White! In honor of the occasion, I put together 20 of my favorite Jack White songs in a very particular order. Enjoy this playlist while you are doing whatever you are doing today (Yes, I know there aren’t any songs from The Raconteurs on it, but I had to limit myself to 20).
