Teacher Fired For Refusing To Give Credit For Missing Homework

A Florida teacher is being praised by parents and teachers after refusing to abide by Florida’s “no-zero” grading policy. Eighth-grade history teacher Diana Tirado was fired for refusing to give her students 50% credit for work that was not even turned in. Diana said that she gave her students weeks to complete the assignment and only learned about the “no-zero” policy after a large group of students didn’t hand in their work.

She was fired for not giving partial credit for the missing assignments. Before she left she messaged the students and said, “A grade in Mrs. Tirado’s class is earned.” Diana said, “I’m so upset because we have a nation of kids that are expecting to get paid and live their life just for showing up and it’s not real.”
