$464 million dollars were spent by the Department of Homeland Security last November on 10 aircraft, purchased from Daedalus Aviation Corporation, have seen limited use since. An article in The New York Times about the purchase said it “was an enormous price tag, but the department said it had no time to consider other offers. The planes were needed urgently for deportation flights.” The department used the claim for urgency to avoid the usual process of looking at other bid options. This is just another instance of a rushed contract issued by the Homeland Security Department. The New York Times quoted a former acting director of ICE from a previous administration, John Sandweg as saying: “If you asked me to write a list of the things ICE needed to increase the number of deportations, buying its own fleet of airplanes would absolutely not make the top ten.” Seven of the planes are Boeing 737s, while the other three are described as “luxury business jets.”

After Texas Republican House incumbent Tony Gonzales was ousted from the race due to scandal regarding sexual misconduct, Republicans have rallied behind controversial candidate Brandon Herrera, who was previously opposed by both President Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson. An article in The New York Times described Herrera as “A self-described gun-rights absolutist and YouTuber known for his inflammatory humor.” Hererra’s videos have contained crude and offensive, sexual humor and he has been accused of antisemitism. Hererra denies the accusations of antisemitism and defended his language by saying ““I know the difference between the way that you speak in a comedy performance, so to speak, and the way that you speak in a political environment…I’ve always toed that line perfectly fine. What they’re going to do is they’re going to pretend jokes are policy, and they’re going to purposely pretend that they don’t know the difference.”

According to TMZ, a North Carolina woman, Krysten Sinema, bailed her boyfriend, Matthew Ammel, out of jail after he assaulted a physician. Sinema was sued by Ammel’s ex-wife for ruining their marriage, as North Carolina is a state that allows a wife to do this. Sinema owned up to having the affair with Ammel, but claimed “they never had sex in North Carolina.”
