Batman v Superman review: a very expensive reaction video for Man of Steel

Back in 2013, Zack Snyder’s cinematic Superman reboot Man Of Steel stirred up plenty of controversy with its dour take on a beloved icon. The film’s version of the man from Krypton, as played by Henry Cavill, is noble and powerful, but removed from the people he’s protecting. He struggles with the memory of his adoptive father Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), who advises him to hide abilities, then chooses to die rather than let Superman publicly save him. Snyder’s Superman is haunted by his own powers, while simultaneously blind to the harm those powers cause. This comes to a head when he fights fellow Kryptonian General Zod (Michael Shannon) in the middle of downtown Metropolis, destroying half the city and undoubtedly killing untold numbers of civilians. And ultimately, to some fans’ horror, he kills Zod to prevent him from doing further harm. Man Of Steel portrays that decision as painful and personal, made at great cost—but it doesn’t bear any resemblance to the more than 70 years of Superman stories that preceded it.

Early ‘Batman v Superman’ Reviews: What the Critics Are Saying

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is facing a rocky start ahead of its Friday release. The tentpole has met with lukewarm reviews and holds a bleak Rotten Tomatoes percentage (which continues to change as more reviews roll in). The last installments fared far better for these caped crusaders, with “Man of Steel” holding a 56% Fresh rating and “The Dark Knight Rises” holding a Fresh 87%. Although there are a few positive reviews for Zack Snyder’s film, most are calling out the film for its messy, less-than-spectacular promised clash of comic-book titans.

Suicide Squad director David Ayer says ‘the world stopped’ when Jared Leto’s Joker walked on set

We’re expecting big things from Jared Leto’s Joker. As well as this being our first glimpse of the character since Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning portrayal of the comic book villain, his Suicide Squad director has opted to throw praise Leto’s way at every given opportunity.  David Ayer’s latest commendation came during an interview withTotal Film in which he recounted the very day the actor first walked on set in character as the Joker. “What Jared has done is absolutely incredible. What he’s done is so powerful, so menacing, so palpable, you can feel him. The crew stops working and just watches him,” Ayer said. “I have to get everybody going again because he’s so fascinating.”

First Look at Cyborg and The Flash in ‘The Dawn of the Justice League’ Concept Art

Fans of DC Films and Warner Bros. have already seen quite a few looks at their cinematic interpretations of Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), but only rarely have they glimpsed any of the other characters that populate the Justice League. Heck we’ve even seen the Wonder Woman movie logo before seeing any official reveals of Cyborg and The Flash. This makes sense from a marketing standpoint considering that DC’s “Holy Trinity” will be appearing onscreen this March in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the films of the expanded comic book universe won’t be far behind. With that in mind, and with the TV special “DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League” tonight at 9:30/8:30c on The CW, we now have some shots of additional superheroes.
