The calendar is brought to you by:
Saturday, September 22nd at The Depot. 21 and over event.
*This calendar is mostly accurate. probably!
• Gin Blossoms at the Gallivan Center
Finally, the perfect event to invite your friend Jealousy to. Even better, proceeds will go to The American Cancer Society. There will be a silent auction, gourmet cuisine and bar, and tributes to those lost to cancer.
• Jon Lovitz at Wiseguys
Your secret favorite SNL alum will be performing 3 nights at Wiseguys at The Gateway.
• Culture Club, B-52’s, Thompson Twins, and more at Maverik Center
It’s the Life Tour…connotating, well, I am not sure what they are trying to say without sounding mean. The best part is you get to hear Fred Schneider make noises.
• Half the Animal at The Loading Dock
If you’ve been listening to X96 Xposed or IPO lately, then you’ve heard this band. Good stuff and worth going to.
• Thriller at Park City’s Egyptian Theatre
Odyssey Dance Theatre’s “Thriller” should get you in the mood as it gets the haunting season going in Park City before moving around the state and finally to Kingsbury Hall on October 5th. Tickets are on sale for all venues now.
• Beck at Maverik Center
The funkmaster of Scientology and everything else is back in Utah, finally, since his show here with Twilight years ago. Get there early as Jenny Lewis is his opener and she’s fantastic.
• Queensryche at Dejoria Center
I just put this here to see if you’re even paying attention.
•Nitro Circus: Nitro World Games at Utah Motorsports Par
Sundays are for exhaust fumes. Last year it took place at Rice-Eccles Stadium, this year we head west. The world’s premier action sports competition is heading back to Salt Lake City this September, with the exciting addition of two new disciplines! Coming off tremendous success in years one and two – the 3rd annual Nitro World Games will focus on motorized sports, with the addition of Nitro RallyCross (NRX) and FMX Quarterpipe – plus the return of FMX Best Trick. Created by Nitro Circus and action sports icon Travis Pastrana, Nitro World Games pushes the limits of action sports competition.
•Iron and Wine at Capitol Theatre
Beards, chords, and crying. Things that will be overheard before the show: “How long have you been into making bread?” “It’s never too hot for flannel.” “Yes, I actually read ‘Infinite Jest.'” All respectable things.
•5th Annual Pooch Party at Campfire Lounge
Sure, you’ve drunk with your dog at home, but have you done it in public? Probably, but when you did were there raffles and prizes? Maybe, but were there a portion of drink sales going to the Community Animal Welfare Society. Hell no, they weren’t. Bring your dog, but it must be on a leash and hair its license and rabies tags on the collar. We all trying to get drunk, not rabies. I know, sometimes you can’t ever tell the difference.
•U-God at Metro Music Hall
If it’s Wu-Tang related and happening in Utah, you’ll hear it on Corey O’Brien Concert and Event Calendar.
•Slothrust at Urban Lounge
I love, love, love this band. You know because I’m always playing them on the radio. They are straight outta Boston and right up your ally if you loved X96 circa 1998 and earlier. I am VERY excited to see this show.
Have an event? Tell Corey about it…
