•Wednesday Food Truck Wars at The Utah Olympic Oval
It’s the third day of the week so I have no doubt you are famished. “Utah Olympic Oval is partnering up with The Food Truck League starting Wednesday, June 15th, and every Wednesday night during the summer for our weekly Food Truck Wars. Patrons can visit the Utah Olympic Oval for some great food from around the Salt Lake Valley before they “Beat the Heat” with our climate controlled public skating.”
Thursday 8/11
•Twilight Concert Series: Jenny Lewis
From “The Wizard” to Rilo Kiley to The Watson Twins to her solo career overall, Jenny Lewis has been in the spotlight for quite some time. Needless to say, Rilo Kiley and her album with The Watson Twins are my favorite as she has been crossing into what I’m thinking to be Taylor Swift territory on her last album. I am hoping she hits on some highlights from her earlier projects during her set. Also, this should be a pretty relaxing Twilight compared to the packed Diplo show last week. Tickets are $5 if you buy them early or $10 at the gate.
•Yoga on the Rooftop at Trolley Square
I am waiting for Yoga in the Parking Lot of The Chinese Gourmet on State Street, but until then, well, this will have to do. “Core Power Yoga and Whole Foods have partnered to create this fun summer yoga class. Come for a relaxing sunset yoga class with a view of the city. We will have free yoga, snacks, drawings, and tons of excitement! Space is limited, so please register!” Also, wear your stretchy pants.
•The Science of Diving at Neptune Divers
Diving ain’t easy. Oddly enough I have a lot of friends who have been taking diving lessons lately, so I’ve been curious. There’s a whole new world down there with the fishes and it would be a great excuse to learn how to dive and do some traveling to tropical places.
Friday 8/12
•Das Energi at The Great Saltair
Diplo got you started at Twilight last week, but the main event is here. Rave at the salty lake with Tiesto, Dillion Francis and a whole lot more DJs at this 2-day festival. “In general relativity, an event horizon is defined as “the point of no return.” This is where the gravitational pull becomes so great that escape seems implausible. This experience, that radiates outward into the unknown, where anxiety is replaced with pure undulating and pulsating bliss is caught in an instance of the observer. This is where the experience of Das Energi is truly felt. The energizing feeling of being pulled into the unknown, enraptured by the visual and sonic stimulations that surround you and drives your heart and your soul to embrace the current that connects us all and peer into the horizon. As we venture into the horizon of 2016 we doubled our power output and proudly announce that on Das Energi’s 5th anniversary, we will be expanding to 2 energi charged nights for the first time! The intensity is high and the frequencies are low as we celebrate the current that connects us all! We welcome you to Das Energi 2016.” Yeah, all that and more.
•47th Annual Park City Kimbal Arts Festival in Park City
A whole lot of art, music, food, yoga, kids and family activities and more. Book a room and make a staycation out of it. The festival goes through Sunday, so it’s a great time to get out of the valley and it’s a little cooler up there. “The Park City Kimball Arts Festival is an award-winning jury selected visual art festival located in the heart of the world-famous resort community of Park City, Utah. Now, in its 47th year, the Kimball Arts Festival is Utah’s longest running visual arts festival and is one of the most highly regarded art events in the West. For three days, the Park City Kimball Arts Festival proudly features more than 200 of North America’s finest artists across twelve disciplines providing visitors with an opportunity to meet and purchase art from a wide variety of talented artists from across the country and internationally. Family-fun activities include driver autograph sessions and karting at the UMC Kart Track.” As an avid “Top Gear” watch and auto novice I am excited to be broadcasting from this event on Saturday night from 6 to 8pm.
•Oktoberfest at Snowbird
Yes, I know it’s August, but you really should get a running start into the fall and there’s no better place to do it than with a pierogi and a huge stein of beer in your paw than at Snowbird. Be smart and get a designated driver. “Voted one of America’s 10 Best Oktoberfests by Men’s Journal Magazine. Snowbird’s Annual Oktoberfest attracts over 60,000 visitors and has grown to become one of the largest festivals in Utah. Every Saturday and Sunday from Aug. 13 through Oct. 9, 2016, including Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 5.”
