A German company called Festo has invented robot birds that fly with “amazingly realistic” movements. The ‘BionicSwallow’ use artificial feathers and soft plates to flutter, glide, and move like a real bird. However, the battery only allows for seven minutes of flight. Festo says the bird-bots could one day be used for purposes like 3D navigation.
