Need A Passport? Getting One Could Take Months Due To Backlog

Planning on traveling outside the U.S. anytime soon? Better make sure your passport is up-to-date.

Federal officials say getting a new passport could take months, due to a massive backlog of more than 2 million applications.

Why the sudden surge? With travel restrictions lifted and a majority of Americans fully vaccinated, many are getting ready to travel again.

While typical passport processing takes about 11 weeks, officials recommend applying at least six months in advance.

When’s the last time you traveled outside the U.S.? What countries would you like to visit one day?
