Authorities in Florida are cracking down on an alleged scam by moving companies who will hold customers’ belongings ‘hostage’ until they pay up. Here’s how it works. The company will quote an initial price, but then jack it up to double or even triple afterwards, forcing customers to pay up or risk losing all their possessions. Others report stolen or damaged items once their belongings were finally returned. Florida’s Attorney General has filed suit against 14 different companies, some of which might be the same company operating under different names.
