Boner Candidate #1: EXCUSE ME, REPRESENTATIVE, ARE YOU AWARE OF THE CONSTITUTION?

A state lawmaker wants to skirt the U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage by passing a bill that would purport to give Utah the right to ignore the decision and bar gay unions. Sponsored by Rep. LaVar Christensen, R-Draper, HB393 — which is titled Sovereign Marriage Authority — seeks to grant Utah sole authority over domestic relations within its borders, including marriage, child welfare and adoption. It would also aim to give state leaders the right to narrowly interpret and apply judicial rulings that are inconsistent with Utah’s historic position on marriage. The bill debuted late Thursday, but it wasn’t scheduled for a committee hearing as of Friday.

Boner Candidate #2: WE DIDN’T KNOW THE BABY WAS SO FAR INTO CRIME

Officers executed a search warrant in a home on Norfolk Street just before noon. In addition to the gun, police also found multiple plastic bags containing heroin and cocaine, as well as $1,000. Police arrested 33-year-old Pedro Valdez of Dorchester and 27-year-old Lasonia Gathers of Dorchester.  Valdez and Gathers were charged with trafficking Class A drugs, trafficking Class B drugs, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a high capacity feeding device, and possession of a firearm with obliterated serial number.

Boner Candidate #3: WHEN WILL THESE LIBERALS STOP WHINING ABOUT GUNS?

Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Richard Blumenthal urged their colleagues on Sunday to back legislation that would close loopholes that allow domestic-violence abusers to get guns. The New York and Connecticut Democrats also called for the Senate to give a hearing to President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, with justices soon to hear crucial gun-control cases. “Under current law, even domestic abusers who have been tried and convicted of their violent crimes are allowed to buy guns,” Gillibrand told reporters in Manhattan on Sunday.
