SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Active duty police officer Lee Warnken says he received a death threat in the mail. It’s a painting of a pig’s head with a police officer cap on and a gun shooting it in the head. Warnken says his 17-year old-daughter discovered the painting in their mailbox last Sunday. “I can’t say I was angry; I can’t say I was hurt; I was more upset because it was her that found it, and it’s directed at me,” Warnken said. Warnken has been in law enforcement since 1982. He’s served as a deputy with the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a patrol officer with the Unified Police Department, and now as an officer with Veterans Affairs in Salt Lake. He says George Floyd should not have died the way he did, and calls his death tragic, but he looks at a picture like what he received and thinks there’s more work to be done to change perceptions on both sides of this national argument. “For too long, it seems like it’s ‘us vs. them,’ and it can’t be. We are a society, we are a community that must rely on each other,” Warnken said.
Boner Candidate #2: GIVE A GUY A FECES SANDWHICH? NO PROBLEM.
A San Antonio bike cop canned over 2016 allegations that he tried to give a homeless man a sandwich filled with dog feces has won an appeal of his dismissal, according to the Associated Press. However, SAPD officer Matthew Luckhurst remains off the beat after a suspension for a separate poop prank. That one involved taking a un-flushed dump in the women’s locker room and smearing a brown substance over the toilet seat after a female officer asked that the restroom be kept clean. This month, an arbitrator sided with Luckhurst in his appeal of the sandwich incident, saying administrators serve him punishment within the required 180-day period. It’s unclear where the second incident is in the appeals process. At issue in the arbitration was the varying dates witnesses gave about when the event took place, according to the AP. Some said Luckhurst served up the shit sandwich on May 6, 2016, while others provided varying dates or said he couldn’t have been on patrol then since he’d been hurt in a martial arts class.
