Deftones Frontman Defends Nu-Metal Fans

Chino Moreno of Deftones recently did an interview for Vulture, which revealed his thoughts on the Nu-Metal genre.

Moreno suggests that fans of Nu-Metal knew what they were getting, saying, “No, when you listened to it then, you knew it was dumb, but you liked it. And that’s okay. No one should be embarrassed by s**t they like that’s dumb…It wasn’t any smarter back then.”

While Deftones were once considered to be a part of the subgenre, they eventually went another direction. However, Moreno continued, “It’s catchy. I get it. There’s nothing wrong with that.”

Deftones’ new album Ohms is out this Friday (Sept. 25th), featuring the song “Genesis.”

Do you have any musical guilty pleasures? Were you a fan of Deftones when they were considered to be Nu-Metal?
