A new large-scale art installation in Salt Lake City, titled A Symphony of Disappearing Sounds for the Great Salt Lake, aims to raise awareness about the lake’s environmental concerns.
The temporary work features a large sphere with shifting light and sound compositions created from field recordings of animals and natural phenomena from the Great Salt Lake ecosystem. The installation, part of the Wake the Great Salt Lake initiative, is the first commissioned work in Utah by artist Olafur Eliasson.
The project invites visitors to experience the lake’s beauty and vulnerability, highlighting its importance to the region’s health and future. Admission to the nightly event is free, offering a unique opportunity to connect with the disappearing natural sounds of the Great Salt Lake.
