A routine traffic stop turned into a major marijuana bust for two New York State Police officers, who discovered 116 pounds of weed inside the vehicle.

The bust occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Monday when officers spotted a motorist — later identified as Flushing resident Vargas Vega — driving well below the posted speed limit, apparently having trouble staying in his lane, according to an NYSP report. They soon discovered Vega’s car was stuffed with big plastic bags that were filled with illegal cannabis, authorities say.
The 23-year-old Vega was arrested, arraigned, and released on his own recognizance, court records indicate. His first court date has not yet been scheduled.
#BREAKING: I just signed legislation legalizing adult-use cannabis.
The bill creates automatic expungement of previous marijuana convictions that would now be legal.
This is a historic day.
I thank the Leader and Speaker and the tireless advocacy of so many.

Does it seem fair that people are still getting arrested on marijuana charges when it’s legal in several states?
