Boner of the Day for December 11th, 2019

ROUND ONE

BONER CANDIDATE #1: IT’S A CHARITY DEAL. IT’S THE BEST CHARITY DEAL. IT’S AN ENORMOUS DEAL.

President Donald Trump is paying up after conceding that he used his charitable foundation at times as a personal piggy bank. Trump has wired $2 million to pay a court-ordered fine for misusing the Trump Foundation in part to further his business interests and 2016 presidential run, New York Attorney General Letitia James said Tuesday. The money will be distributed to eight charities. About $1.8 million left in the Trump Foundation´s bank account was also split among the nonprofits getting fine money, along with $11,525 that Trump paid back for spending foundation money on sports memorabilia and champagne at a charity gala. New York state Judge Saliann Scarpulla imposed the penalty last month after Trump admitted to a series of abuses outlined in a lawsuit brought against him last year by James’ office. ‘Charities are not a means to an end, which is why these damages speak to the president’s abuse of power and represent a victory for not-for-profits that follow the law,’ James, a Democrat, said in a statement. ‘Funds have finally gone where they deserve – to eight credible charities.’   Read More

BONER CANDIDATE #2: THE PANTLESS PROWLER

A “pantless prowler” has been spotted skulking around yards and driveways in a North Carolina town, police said. The scantily clad man, believed to be in his 20 or 30s, was last seen on surveillance footage late Saturday outside a home in Clayton, where he has walked around the Riverwood Athletic Club neighborhood “sometimes half-naked,” police said Monday. “He is seen walking directly across driveways near front doors,” department officials said on Facebook. “In other footage he is clearly not wearing shorts and can be seen crouching down near a backyard grill.” In other instances, the man was seen wearing a baseball hat, a blue sweatshirt or jacket and light blue shorts, as well as white socks and black shoes. Police in Clayton — a town of about 21,000 people southeast of Raleigh – said the man had only been reported for trespassing as of Monday.   Read More

BONER CANDIDATE #3: BUTT SLAPPIN’ YOUTH MINISTER

The runner who slapped a TV reporter’s behind is a local youth minister who claims he wants to “correct the situation” — while the journalist on the receiving end of his hand says he “hurt me, both physically and emotionally.” Tommy Callaway was identified as the Savannah, Ga., 10K racer who slapped WSAV-TV anchor Alex Bozarjian, after online sleuths found him thanks to his race number shown in other photos. Callaway is a youth group leader at his church, Pittman Park UMC, as well as a Boy Scout leader, according to Heavy, based on social media sites that he quickly took down as he was outed and banned from future races. His lawyer, Joseph Turner, called him a “loving husband and father who is very active in his community” and local church, insisting he was “working with those involved to correct the situation.” “While we regret the situation, Mr. Callaway did not act with any criminal intentions,” Turner said in a statement.   Read More

ROUND TWO

BONER CANDIDATE #1: FLORIDA RULES

A Florida man has been charged with misdemeanor battery after he allegedly got into an argument with a woman over the Impeachment hearings of Donald Trump, PEOPLE has confirmed. According to a police report obtained by PEOPLE and first received by The Smoking Gun, 62-year-old Ernest Ford is accused of shoving the 60-year-old victim to the ground during a discussion over the hearings in Washington. (President Trump is accused of withholding defense funding from the Ukraine in exchange for its help in attacking political rivals at home.) While watching television, Ford and the woman became “engaged in a verbal dispute about the impeachment hearings” on December 6, the police report claims. The dispute soon became physical, police say. The police report does not specify any details about the verbal dispute, or which side of the issue Ford took. The police report alleges that Ford was 5’10” and 272 pounds. He allegedly “grabbed the victim by her shoulders and pushed her to the ground. The victim obtained a scrape on her right knee.”   Read More

BONER CANDIDATE #2: IT’S A DEN OF THIEVES AND VILLAINS

Seema Verma who, as a senior figure in the Trump administration, has made it more difficult for poor Americans to access health coverage, has filed a claim of $47,000 for the loss of her luggage while on a three-day work trip. According to Politico, Verma filed the claim on 28 August 2018 after having her luggage stolen while giving a speech in San Francisco. Her expenses included 20 pieces of jewellery, which sounds reasonable for a three day-work trip – if you are Snoop Dogg. She had originally estimated the cost of those pieces at $20,000, but came back with the higher $43,065 price tag after visiting a jeweler three weeks after the theft. Because sometimes you’re just that rich that you forget about that extra 20 grand you dropped at the jewelers. Verma is the head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which is responsible for Medicare, the US health insurance program for seniors and Medicaid, the program for low-income Americans.   Read More

BONER CANDIDATE #3: DOESN’T THE HASHTAG MAKE IT OKAY?

Aaron Carter’s latest Instagram post is racking up dislikes. A video that the singer shared Monday shows him ordering Chinese food over the phone, while imitating a Chinese accent. He captioned the share, “When your friends can’t order Chinese food chicken in NYC AND you have to SHOW THEM YOURE cultural status #satire.” If the hashtag was intended to prevent backlash, well, it didn’t work. Many people were very upset with what they saw. They deemed Carter’s post “severely racist” and “wildly offensive.” One person labeled the moment, “Cringe fest 2019,” while another called it, “ignorance at its finest.” Someone suggested that Carter get “serious help.” “Could you get any lower dude? This is not a good look,” someone else wrote. Still another advised, “It would be in your best interest to delete this.”   Read More
