Boner of the Day for February 18th, 2020

ROUND ONE

BONER CANDIDATE #1: IF YOU BELIEVE “USED CONDOMS”, YOU’LL BELIEVE ANYTHING

In February 2020, an image supposedly showing a new product from condom-maker Trojan circulated on social media. While the above-displayed image was frequently shared with humorous captions, some social media users appeared to find the product plausible enough to be real. But this is not a genuine photograph of a Trojan product. This is a digitally manipulated image created by Adam Padilla. Padilla posted this image to his Twitter account on Valentine’s Day 2020. If you look in the top right of the image, just below the “KY Me & You” product, you can see a watermark for “Adam.The.Creator.” This is not the first time that Padilla’s digital content has managed to fool viewers on social media. Padilla is behind other humorous fake products, such as baby’s “First Vape” and “Monster Energy Caffeinated Ham.”   Read More

BONER CANDIDATE #2: OUR WATER SMELLS FUNNY

Fort Lauderdale officials say 211.6 million gallons of sewage has spilled into the city’s waterways in the past few months. The Sun-Sentinel reports that’s enough to fill 320 Olympic-sized pools. The city’s aging sewer pipes broke six times in December and spewed 126.9 million gallons of sewage — ranking as one of South Florida’s biggest spills ever. The spills fouled the Tarpon River, the Himmarshee Canal and streets in three neighborhoods. According to what officials told the state Department of Environmental Protection, 79.3 million gallons spilled into George English Lake over a 10-day period that began Jan. 30 and ended Feb. 8. Then an additional 5.4 million gallons flooded streets near a park right across from a popular mall.   Read More

BONER CANDIDATE #3: SO WAIT. THEY HAVEN’T REMODELED THE SCHOOL SINCE ’57?

The mystery of the contents of a purse found in the space between a locker and a wall in an Ohio middle school have been revealed. The red purse covered in dust was discovered last year by Chas Pyle, a custodian at North Canton Middle School, when he was reattaching the trim between the lockers and the wall. The school district in North Canton, Ohio, posted images of the long-lost purse, trying to find its owner. After some investigating the school learned it had belonged to former student Patti Rumfola, who lost it in 1957. Rumfola passed away in 2013, but the school was able to connect with her children. “Patti’s five children were together for a family gathering in the fall where they opened the purse to have a glimpse into their mother’s life as a teenager at Hoover High School,” said the school’s post on Facebook. The contents of the woman’s clutch were revealed on social media by the school Thursday, offering a glimpse into the life of an American teenager in the 50’s.   Read More

ROUND TWO

BONER CANDIDATE #1: THEY MADE IT WORSE

A North Carolina mother is blasting law enforcement officers for their violent treatment of her son outside an emergency room during a mental health crisis. The teen is expected in court today facing four charges from the incident, including felony malicious conduct. In surveillance video of the scene, which happened in December in Lincolnton, outside Charlotte, security guards are seen tackling the teenager. At another point, a sheriff’s deputy punches him in the head while he’s handcuffed, reports correspondent Don Dahler. His mother, Jessica Long, told CBS Charlotte affiliate WBTV that security officers and law enforcement escalated the situation instead of helping her son, who’s been treated for mental illness in the past. “They did the worst; they made it worse,” Long said. The shocking video shows the moments Long’s 16-year-old son, Hayden, was tackled to the ground and punched twice in the head. “They just immediately went for full-blown physical force,” said Long. “And these were big guys, and my son’s, what, maybe 120 pounds.”   Read More

BONER CANDIDATE #2: ANOTHER TRUMP LYING LIAR

No one disputes that Secret Service protection is essential and expensive. But revelations about exorbitant rates that the Secret Service has been charged to protect President Trump at his private properties raise the question of what interest is being furthered. Is it the safety of the president or the bottom line of his private holdings? An investigation by The Post’s David A. Fahrenthold, Jonathan O’Connell, Carol D. Leonnig and Josh Dawsey found 103 payments from January 2017 to April 2018 from the Secret Service to Trump companies, totaling more than $471,000. Among the charges were $650 per night for agents to use rooms “dozens” of times in 2017 at Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida and $17,000 a month to rent a three-bedroom cottage at Trump National Golf Club Bedminister in New Jersey for three months in 2017.   Read More

BONER CANDIDATE #3: PHILLIP! YOU RASCAL.

These were not the crown jewels they wanted to show off. Britain’s royal family has faced yet another embarrassment — with its official website sending users to a hardcore porn site. Royal.uk opens with a photo of a smiling Queen Elizabeth II next to husband Prince Philip, proudly declaring itself “the home of the Royal Family” and showcasing all the leading family members. It also links to charities getting royal support and approval — with one link for a charity patronized by Prince Harry mistakenly taking users to a Chinese porn site, the Sun reported. Instead of Welsh charity Dolen Cymru, royal web surfers were confronted with videos of couples having sex, along with flashing click-throughs to “rape incest porn” and “live sex shows,” the Sun said.   Read More
